Green Bay, WI—(WGBW)— Two Northeast Wisconsin Democrats have thrown their hats into the ring in an attempt to unseat  Eighth Congressional District (8th CD) U.S. Representative Tony Wied.

Former Green Bay School Board member, Rick Crosson announced in a couple of Facebook posts that he will challenge Wied in the 2026 election.

Crosson, who filed his campaign papers with the Federal Election Commission last week, is the second Democrat to announce an attempt to unseat Wied, who was elected in 2024.

Earlier this month, Mark Scheffler of Appleton filed his campaign documents to run in the 8th CD with the Federal Election Commission. In a YouTube video, Scheffler said his official announcement will happen after Labor Day, but that he plans to run as a progressive Democrat.

This sets up a Democratic Primary situation to choose the candidate who will oppose incumbent Tony Wied.

The 8th CD covers all of Green Bay and Brown, Calumet, Door, Kewaunee, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, and Waupaca Counties, and parts of Winnebago County.
