RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- A lightning strike Monday afternoon started a fire in a home at N9995 County Highway G in Fond du Lac County’s town of Calumet.

According to the Sheriff’s Office their dispatch center got a 911 call from the homeowner saying the lightning strike started a fire in a bathroom. Occupants safely evacuated from the house and no one was injured.

Smoke was coming from the roof when deputies and local fire departments arrived. The fire was contained to one corner of the home causing minor damage.

The homeowner heard a loud bang followed by a flickering of the home’s electrical system. The homeowner then discovered the bathroom light fixtures weren’t working and smoke was coming from a vent in the bathroom. Based on those statements’ investigators determined the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
