RIPON, Wis (WRPN)- Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s officials tell us a home in the Town of Friendship was damaged and a cat died in a fire Thursday night.

Deputies and Van Dyne firefighters responded to N7402 Lakeshore Drive shortly after 9:30 pm after a 911 call. The caller reported a smoke alarm going off, black smoke filling the residence and flames.

When deputies arrived black smoke was coming from the second story of the home. The lone occupant had made it out but a cat was missing. Firefighters were able to put the fire out before it could spread through the house, or second story.

According to the initial investigation the fire started on the first floor near an end table. There was moderate damage to the interior of the first floor, with smoke and soot damage throughout the house. No one was injured, but the cat was found dead in the house.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. North Fond du Lac Fire and EMS, Eldorado Fire, Town of Fond du Lac Fire, and Lamartine Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
