High school football all-star games raise money for Children’s Wisconsin
OSHKOSH, Wis. (WISS) – For the 49th year, the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association put on a showcase for the state’s top high school football talent.
For all of those years, the event has served as a fundraiser with one goal in mind: supporting Wisconsin children who need it the most.
Since 2008, the WFCA All-Star Games have acted as a fundraiser for Children’s Wisconsin, with over $5 million raised to date. This year’s game participants, coaches, and sponsors were able to raise over $350,000.
Over time, the WFCA event has grown from one game encompassing all schools in Wisconsin to three separate games, representing three levels of competition in the state. The first game is for programs in 8-player football. The second game is for small schools (Divisions 4 through 7). The final game is for large schools (Divisions 1 through 3).
The North was able to win all three games this year, defeating the South in 8-player, Small, and Large school contests.
Each roster is comprised of top student-athletes in their respective north or south region. Due to WIAA amateur eligibility rules, only seniors who have completed their playing careers are able to play in the game. Coaches are selected from a pool of nominated individuals from around the state, provided they are members of the state’s coaches association.
Since 1977, WFCA has sponsored an annual all-star game. Prior to that, an all-star game was held up until 1951 with teams selected by combinations of coaches and media before the WIAA ended the practice. There were no high school football all star games from 1952 to 1976.
Currently, the game is played in mid-July at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh, which is also the home for UW-Oshkosh.
The 2025 high school football season kicks off on Aug. 21 and 22.
