Wisconsin school districts estimated to receive nearly $6 billion in general aid

MADISON, Wis (CIVIC MEDIA) – The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released their estimate of the general school aids each public school district will receive for the 2025-26 school year.

The estimates were published just after Governor Tony Evers announced that he and the Wisconsin Senate had come to an agreement on the state budget, claiming that education is a high priority in the proposal. The current estimate uses the figures from the 2024-25 general aid approximation.

The 2025-26 general aid estimation amounts to $5.58 billion. Of Wisconsin’s 421 school districts, 135 districts are on track to receive more funding that last school year; 277 districts are projected to receive less, and nine districts have seen no change in aid between this year’s estimations and last year’s. 86 districts received the maximum 15 percent decrease in aid – considerably more than last year’s 64.

The Joint Finance Committee did not have an increase in aid in the budget proposal for the 2025-26 or 2026-27 school fiscal years. The DPI will certify the estimates based on proven data on October 15.
