The Richland Center Hornets defeated Galena 1-0 in high school soccer action on a sunny day.

The field was still very wet and muddy after Tuesdays rain. The score was tied at 0 going into halftime. In the 15th minute of the second half the hornets scored off a loose ball just outside the 18 yard box. The Hornet goal was made by junior Sylvia Schmidt. She used a strong kick chipping the Galena keeper with assistance from Sophia Ringelstetter and Nevaeh Glasbrenner to get the ball on the attacking half of the field.

The Hornets defense played excellent in the shutout win led by keeper Lilly Tydrich, defenders Harper Glasbrenner, Brynn Anderson, Ella Stadler, Moriah O’Bday and Sylvia Schmidt.

Richland Center improved to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the Southwest Conference.

The Galena Pirates fall to 1-4 with the loss.

Hornets next action is another conference match Thursday home vs. Dodge/Point and it will also be RARYS Night for all young soccer players and their families at halftime.

Galena will host Platteville/Lancaster on Thursday.
