KENOSHA, Wis. – (WRJN) – Gateway Technical College has dissolved its Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. A letter says it’s in response to federal directives threatening the loss of funding for institutions with race-based programs.

President Dr. Ritu Raju announced the decision this week, calling it difficult but necessary to protect federal support, including student financial aid.

“We must make difficult decisions to ensure the continuity of key federal funding,” Raju said in a statement to the college community.

The move comes as educational institutions nationwide deal with new guidelines from the U.S. Department of Education.

Dr. Tammi Summers will continue as acting vice president of Student Affairs and lead student support programming.

The statement directs employees in need of support due to the decision to Gateway’s Employee Assistance Program, 1-800-540-3758.
