A unique nonprofit is making waves with its adaptive and inclusive fitness programs. Grit 920 is based in Howard, Wisconsin, just outside of Green Bay, and empowers all abilities by catering to people of all ages. It continues to grow through its dedication ensuring everyone – whether with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or any other challenge – has access to fitness that enhances mobility, balance, strength, and overall health.

This all started when a group from Pulaski Middle School asked about offering fitness opportunities for socialization. Grit 920 officially became a nonprofit in 2022 and now serves more than 220 individuals. Executive Director Hollie Linder calls it a community-driven powerhouse.

“We partner with Howard, Suamico, Pulaski, and Bonduel school districts, offering set times each week for their students to engage in fitness,” Linder explains. “We also collaborate with three adult programs, including Aspiro and Bridge the Gap, bringing fitness and fun to people at all stages of life.”

Grit 920 also offers “Fun Fit Fridays,” an open format event welcoming anyone to participate. It’s a chance for new athletes and volunteers to join the inclusive atmosphere of the gym where the emphasis is on collaboration over competition. Mike Schmidt, Vice President and Co-Chair, expresses the emotional impact this program is having on everyone involved.

“It’s pure joy seeing athletes walk into the gym, building confidence as they conquer tasks,” Schmidt says. “We’re not just building strength. We’re building self-esteem.”

Grit 920 is now focusing on expanding its volunteer base and community connections.

“It’s incredible to see Bayport football players volunteering with us,” Schmidt explains. “And then to have more than a dozen of them show up to help with our adaptive football camp with the Packers? It’s just one of the many positive examples here.”

“And with a mission grounded in positivity and determination, there’s proof that with grit, anyone can achieve greatness,” Linder says.
