Chippewa Valley residents are being asked for input on the current state of transportation as a local organization plans for future goals.

The Chippewa-Eau Claire Metropolitan Planning Organization is conducting a survey of local residents on transportation issues. According to a Leader Telegram report, the organization plans to use the information gathered in the survey to inform the development of long range transportation plans for the region.

The organization will offer residents the chance to fill out an online survey until March 23rd. The survey asks residents for feedback on their usual methods of transportation and their opinions on the quality of area roadways and public transit offerings. Additionally, the survey will ask residents about passenger rail service as plans for a potential rail corridor between Eau Claire and the Twin Cities continue to be developed.

In addition to the survey, the organization is also inviting Chippewa Valley residents to three informational open houses in March. The open houses will be held in the City of Altoona on March 4th, the City of Eau Claire on March 6th, and the City of Chippewa Falls on March 11th.

According to the West Central Regional Planning Commission, Metropolitan Planning Organizations are required to update their Long Range Transportation Plan every five years. The feedback collected from this survey will be used to update the plan beginning in 2026. The goal is to take a broad look at transportation trends and identify potential deficiencies. Local municipalities can then prioritize specific goals over the next five year period.
