WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR/WIRI) – With the 2025 competition just around the corner, Miss Northern Lights’ Teen Ruby Marti stops by the WFHR studio. She shares about her causes and how she helped keep the McMillan Memorial Library funds in place. She also spoke about how the competition helps young women grow in many aspects of their lives.
The Miss Northern Lights organization encourages contestants to have a cause about which they are passionate. This helps the young women grow their communication skills through educating others on issues important to them.
Ruby’s platform is “Silence is NOT Golden: Early Language Matters”. She works with the organization LENA (Language ENvironment Analysis). LENA is a national nonprofit on a mission to transform children’s futures through early talk technology and data-driven programs. She was able to participate in a LENA graduation for a ten week program that prepares children and gives tips and skills to the mothers. Those tips and skills help with the child’s interaction and literacy.
Ruby also participated in the “Talk, Sing, Read and Play Portage County” event in Stephens Point on December 14. The Christmas theme event included her reading to the children. They also made a snowman themed craft and sang Christmas Carols. It is a monthly play group event hosted by the Portage County Library.
The Miss Northern Lights Organization helps young women grow through education with a $500 scholarship for the winner. In addition, it encourages community service and helps the young women develop their communication and leadership skills. It is a preliminary competition for the Miss Wisconsin and Miss America crowns.
The competitions are considered open. This means that young women between the ages of 13-28 who live in, work full time in, or go to school/college in Wisconsin. The Miss competition is open to those ages 14-18. The Teen competition is open to those 18-27. Contestants compete in private Interview with the judges, onstage question, lifestyle & fitness in activewear, talent, and evening wear.
The 2025 Miss Northern Lights and Miss Northern Lights Teen competition will place at the Sentry Theater in Stevens Point on January 11 at 4:00 pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door (cash only please).
