MILWAUKEE, Wis (Civic Media) – Power problems persist following storms last night. We Energies has 1,919 Waukesha County customers without a connection this morning. Current outages in Racine County are less than 200.
A line of severe thunderstorms packing damaging winds swept across southeast Wisconsin Tuesday night. While there were no immediate reports of confirmed tornadoes, the storms prompted tornado watches and warnings across multiple counties until the early hours of Wednesday.
The areas most impacted by power problems include Waukesha, Pewaukee, Milwaukee, and Burlington. We Energies reported over 25,000 customers without electricity at the peak of the storms, with Waukesha County accounting for more than 11,000 outages.
We Energies is urging residents to avoid any downed power lines and report them immediately by calling 800-662-4797 or through the company’s mobile app.
Reports of confirmed tornadoes from Tuesday’s storms will most likely come on Wednesday, after the National Weather Service’s meteorologists and damage assessment teams complete their on-site surveys and assessments.
