LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLCX) – The School District of La Crosse is announcing schedule changes for the upcoming school year.
In an announcement on the district’s website, school officials said that the 2025-26 school year will begin on August 21st.
Transportation costs were cited as the main factor in moving the start date up, according to the district’s website. A waiver with the state’s Department of Public Instruction is required to begin school before August 21.
In addition, the school day will change for students as well. Elementary students will be in class from 7:45 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Middle and high school students will be in attendance from 8:25 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The district cited research showing benefits of the new start times for students.
Finally, the district announced it was ending year-round scheduling for Northside Elementary and Coulee Montessori, citing challenges in attendance and enrollment goals.
