Packers Heritage Trail Monument removed

GREEN BAY, WI- (WGBW) – The Packers Heritage Trail Monument is no more. Crews removed the statues, photos, pavers, and items that made up the monument near the corner of Adams and Washington streets in downtown Green Bay on Monday morning. 

The City of Green Bay paid over $109,900 to disassemble and move the statues and monuments at Packers Heritage Trail Plaza. 

The Packers Heritage Trail Plaza held statues of Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, team co-founder George Whitney Calhoun, and others. A part of downtown Green Bay since 2013, the monument is being moved to make way for an eight-story, 268-unit luxury apartment building.

At one point, Packers Heritage Trail, Inc. sued the city to keep the monument where it was. Eventually reached an agreement with the city to remove, salvage, and transfer the plaza’s contents to Packers Heritage.

The statues and other parts of the monument will be stored until a new location can be found.
