The Richland Center boys basketball team won the season opener 61-44 at home against Viroqua on Tuesday night.  The win avenged two against the Blackhawks last season including an overtime defeat in the WIAA playoffs.

The game was close until early in the 2nd half.  The Hornets led 27-24 at halftime.  The Blackhawks scored the first 5 points after halftime and held their last lead at 29-27.  Richland Center went on an 11-0 run and never trailed after that.

Sophomore Jayden Schoep had 19 including 4 three pointers and Senior Wes Bosworth had 19 from the low post.  Senior Treyton Schoep had 10 points and Senior Garrison Weiss had 9.  Junior Liam Fingerson had 4 points.  Richland Center was 5 for 8 from the free throw line.

Viroqua was paced by Senior Benson McDowell who had a game high 20 points including 3 three point baskets.  Senior Solomon Murdock had 9.  The Blackhawks were 8 for 12 from the line.

The Richland Center JV one team played Hillsboro and lost to the Tigers 43-38 in the early game at the RCHS Field house.

Following the 61-44 Varsity win, Richland Center will have some practice time in preperation for a road trip to Sauk Prairie next Tuesday night.  Viroqua will prepare for league action against West Salem next Thursday
