Scammers will go to any length to obtain personal information, and money, from an unsuspecting individual. With today’s technology the scammer has the ability to pretend they are someone that can be trusted. They even go as far as pretending to be a military service member. Michelle Reinen (rye-nun) is with The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
As with any scam there are red flags to watch out for.
There are ways to know if the person contacting you is an actual military service member, or a scammer, according to Reinen.
