DOJ Monitoring Wisconsin Polling Locations on Election Day

MILWAUKEE, Wis (Civic Media) — The U.S. Department of Justice is monitoring polling locations in several Wisconsin areas on election day to ensure compliance with federal voting rights laws.

U.S. Attorney Gregory J. Haanstad announced monitors are deployed to Milwaukee, while U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O’Shea stated that the Western District will see monitoring in the Town of Lawrence, Town of Thornapple, and the City of Wausau.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division will coordinate the effort, with staff contacting state and local election officials as needed throughout Election Day. A statement says the monitoring is part of the department’s regular efforts to protect the rights of all eligible citizens to access the ballot.

On Election Day, Civil Rights Division staff will be available to receive questions and complaints about possible federal voting rights violations. The public can report concerns through the department’s website or by calling 800-253-3931.

Local resources will also be available, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Milwaukee taking complaints at 414-297-4103.
