Eau Claire saw visits from Senator Tammy Baldwin and Republican challenger Eric Hovde as the two look to rally supporters for Election Day.

On Thursday, Hovde took a tour of McDonough Manufacturing Company in Eau Claire and spoke with workers about his campaign focus. During his remarks, he spoke about proposing tax cuts, cutting regulations, and concerns about inflation and the national debt.

Hovde also spoke about the farm bill following the tour, saying “The farm bill, only about 20% of the farm bill is for farmers. It’s a giant free-spending bill bought off by a lot of corporate interests. And my guess is if you put Senator Baldwin here and started asking her about all the issues in the farm bill, she wouldn’t have a clue.”

Hovde also made a campaign stop at Loopy’s Bar and Grill in Chippewa Falls on Sunday. His remarks again focused on cutting government regulations on the agricultural industry.

On Saturday, Senator Baldwin and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers rallied canvassers and supporters at the IBEW Local Union in Eau Claire. Asked about the farm bill, Senator Baldwin said “The farm bill is critical. It’s usually a five-year measure and it provides certainty to people in agriculture with regard to being able to say, manage their risk, and farmers take a lot of risk. But also, there’s a group of programs that help farmers get ahead, whether that be being able to install solar panels to reduce their energy bills and improve their efficiency.”

Senator Baldwin also highlighted one of the provisions that she wrote, the Dairy Business Innovation Initiative. The program provides small grants to farmers to streamline efficiency, grow their business, and grow their export markets. Senator Baldwin is endorsed by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau.
