GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW) – Vice President Kamala Harris wrapped up a day of political events across Wisconsin with a visit to the Resch Expo Thursday evening. Earlier in the day she appeared in Milwaukee and La Crosse working to reach voters across the swing state.
Vice President Harris closed out the trip to Wisconsin being introduced to the Green Bay crowd by Jim Ridderbush, a Green Bay resident and the Vice President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1473.
“Vice President Kamala Harris has always put workers first and held corporations accountable,” said Ridderbush. “She walked the picket line with striking auto workers in 2019. Cracked down on wage theft as attorney general. And the Vice President has overseen the creation of thousands of good paying union jobs in Wisconsin.”
According to the Harris/Walz campaign, 4,000 people attended the rally in the shadow of Lambeau Field.
“We know that this election is about two very different visions of our country,” said Harris. “One that is focused on the past – his. And ours that is focused on the future.”
Harris turned the spotlight on the importance of the election for women by showing clips of Donald Trump bragging about the overturn of Roe v Wade and claiming to be the “Father of IVF.”
She said a second term would be even worse.
“I do believe that Donald Trump is an unserious man. But the consequences of him being president again are brutally serious!” Harris said. “Because ours is a fight for the future, and it is a fight for freedom. Like the fundamental freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body. And not have her government tell her what to do!”
She also talked a great deal about how she would help entrepreneurs, and small businesses and make changes that will clear a path to success for more people such as eliminating the requirement for a college degree for certain Federal jobs. She said she would lower costs and take on the price gougers.
“I will always put the middle class and working families first. I come from the middle class,” said Harris. “And I will never forget where I come from. Never! Never!”
Earlier in the day, Vice President Harris was in Milwaukee visiting a business class at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and talking about her plan to build an Opportunity Economy that supports entrepreneurship and small business growth by expanding the small business tax deduction from $5000 to $50,000. She then visited the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to engage with students there.
Other state leaders appearing at the rally with Harris were Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler, Shannon Holsey, President of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, and Dr. Kristin Lyerly, candidate for Congressional District 8.
This is Harris’s second visit to NEWisco. She appeared at a rally in Ripon on October 3rd where she got the endorsement of key Republicans such as Liz Cheney. Earlier this week, Gov. Tim Walz visited Green Bay on Monday. Donald Trump hasn’t visited Northeast Wisconsin since April. His running mate, JD Vance was in De Pere in August.
