DNR Collaborates with Local Organizations to Host Free Kids’ Ice Fishing Clinics in Milwaukee County
MADISON, Wis. (Civic Media) – Milwaukee County Parks will come alive with the excitement of ice fishing as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) joins forces with the Hunger Task Force, Wisconsin Council of Sport Fishing Organizations, and local fishing clubs to offer a series of free clinics for kids. The event aims to get families and organizations to bring their children to one of the five designated Milwaukee County Parks on Saturday, February 17, 2024, for an ice fishing experience.
These clinics will be held on urban waters, which, according to state statute, are exclusively reserved for children aged 15 and younger and individuals with specific disabilities between March and April.
Families are encouraged to take full advantage of these urban waters as local fishing clubs open up to eager young anglers. The clinics will provide comprehensive instruction on ice safety, covering essential skills such as knot tying, proper equipment usage, and fishing techniques. While fishing equipment will be available for borrowing, participants are encouraged to bring their own if possible. Young children must be accompanied by an adult, and everyone is advised to dress appropriately for the winter weather conditions.
