OSHKOSH, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – In his third stop of the day, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg visited Oshkosh to rally volunteers at the Winnebago County Democratic Party Office in a canvas launch Saturday.

To invigorate the over 120 people crowded into the office, Buttigieg highlighted some of the differences between the Democratic ticket and the Project 2025-focused Republican ticket.

“Communities red, blue, and purple already understand that if we’re serious about protecting children in school. That’s not about keeping a Tony Morrison paperback out of the school library. It’s about making sure assault weapons don’t get anywhere near the schools,” Buttigieg said. “Most people living in communities red, blue, and purple already agree with us that in a free country, you get to be who you are; you get to love who you love, and a woman makes her own health care decisions!”

The importance of the Fox Valley

The Oskhosh visit followed a block party in Green Bay Saturday morning and a stop in Appleton to launch canvassing in Outagamie County. After encouraging Oshkosh volunteers to get out the vote, he made a final stop in Fond du Lac.

Buttigieg said Northeast Wisconsin is crucial to the Harris/Walz campaign.

“If you look at the numbers, and you look at just where in the country it’s going to come down to. – No pressure. – But a couple votes per precinct in the Fox Valley might determine the trajectory of Western Civilization,” Buttigieg said.

Kristin Alfheim and Representative Lori Palmeri were also on hand to fire up the canvassers. Alfheim is the Democratic candidate in the 18th Senate District. Palmeri is running for re-election in the 54th Assembly District.

Pete Buttigieg was in the Fox Valley in a personal capacity and not as Transportation Secretary.

“Because I want to be able to promise my daughter – just as sure as there’s no dinosaurs coming for her. I want to be able to promise her that she will grow up and live with more rights and freedoms. And not less than her grandmother had,” Buttigieg said.
