Local Officials Weigh in on Gov. Walz Visit to Wausau

North Central Wisconsin (WFHR, WIRI, WXCO) – Governor Tim Walz landed at the Central Wisconsin Airport on Friday afternoon to continue the campaign’s New Way Forward Tour with a visit to Wausau. Earlier in the day, Gov. Walz attended a student event and visited a campaign field office in Lansing, Michigan. At both locations, he thanked volunteers for their continued support and hard work. Harris-Walz for Michigan and Michigan Democrats have opened 52 coordinated campaign offices across the state. The campaign states, “We’re opening offices in our most competitive counties and in red counties because we’re not taking any votes for granted.”

Well over three hundred people were awaiting the arrival of Governor Walz at the Whitewater Music Hall Brewing Company in Wausau. Attendees enjoyed the Volunteer Appreciation event in the lounge area with complimentary food and crafts for the kids. Many local government representatives and candidates were in attendance and constituents were able to have easy conversations with them about their concerns.

Volunteer Appreciation

This is Governor Walz’s fourth visit to Wisconsin since becoming Vice President Harris’s running mate. During his remarks, he sincerely thanked all the volunteers on behalf of himself and Vice President Harris. He thanked them for the opportunity to earn their vote, but most of all for believing in this country and democracy.

Local Officials Response to Remarks

Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza was impressed that the campaign is here in central Wisconsin again. He said the sharing of values really energized the whole campaign. Mayor Wiza said Gov. Walz is very down to earth and not afraid to tell it like he sees it.

Rep. Katrina Shankland currently serves in the 71st Assembly District. She said the fact that Governor Walz is traveling to every media market in every swing state in the country will make a difference in mobilizing voters and recruiting volunteers.

Collin McNamara is running for Senate District 24. He said Governor Walz’s speech really highlighted the Midwestern values that candidates up and down the ticket in Wisconsin are running on. He said the most important thing is voting on or before November 5th and not sitting on the sidelines for this election.

Kyle Kilbourn is running for the 7th Congressional District. He felt Governor Walz clearly outlined the choices voters have.

Vinnie Miresse is running for the 71st Assembly District. I spoke with him before Governor Walz gave his remarks. Miresse said Governor Walz is a man of the people and he looked forward to hearing the governor’s perspective. He also spoke to Governor Walz’s history as an educator and how that could have a positive impact here in Wisconsin.
