Park Falls Country Club Winding Down Busy Season With Match Play Championship

The Park Falls Country Club (PFCC) is hosting its first-ever Match Play Championship this Sunday,
marking a significant milestone for the city-owned golf course that has seen a resurgence in recent years.
Spearheaded by Scott Sturgeon and the league organizers, the event will culminate in an exciting final
match at 1 PM on Sunday August 25, featuring Dell Peterson against Brian Eimmerman for the
championship title. Simultaneously, Scott Lustig and Bob Anderson will compete for third place.
This year’s match play tournament was organized quickly, attracting 14 participants in just two weeks.
The growing interest suggests the event could expand in the coming years, with more golfers expected to
participate. The introduction of this competitive format is part of the PFCC’s broader efforts to engage the
local golfing community, with Scott Sturgeon emphasizing the unique appeal of match play. “What I like
about match play is that every hole is its own contest. You can have a bad hole and still recover, which
makes it more competitive and fun,” said Sturgeon.
Adding to the excitement, the event will feature a “Closest to the Pin” contest sponsored by Oh Deer
Nutrition. With a $500 prize on the line, all 14 participants have a shot at winning. The contest will take
place on hole 9, which is strategically located in front of the clubhouse, providing spectators with an
excellent view of the action. Sturgeon expressed his hope for a crowd, noting, “We’re hoping to get a
good turnout to watch the contest and cheer on the players.”
The PFCC is well-known in the Northwoods for its challenging yet beautifully maintained course. The
club’s management attributes its success to the dedication of groundskeepers like Bob and Erin Stelter
and Brian Eimmerman. Despite heavy rainfall this year, the course has remained in top condition, a
testament to their hard work. “The greens roll true, the fairways are great, and we’re fortunate to have a
course like this,” Sturgeon remarked.
In recent years, the PFCC has not only maintained its quality but also expanded its offerings, including
improvements to the clubhouse and facilities. The club has been actively working to attract younger
players, with an increase in league participation and more family-friendly membership options. The
affordability of the club—$400 to $500 for an annual membership—makes it an accessible option for
