United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, Governor Tony Evers, and State Representative Jodi Emerson hosted a reproductive rights panel at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire on Tuesday.

The panel came just after the two year anniversary of the Dobbs decision by the United States Supreme Court, which effectively overturned Roe v. Wade. Since that decision, many states have enacted abortion bans forcing pregnant patients to seek out of state healthcare options. Wisconsin also contended with an 1849 law which effectively outlawed abortion in the state until a judge ruled that the law did not apply to consensual abortions.

In addition to the impacts that the Dobbs decision had on Wisconsin residents, the three covered a variety of national issues the decision caused. Senator Warren took aim at former President Donald Trump and Republican efforts to curb access to abortion, IVF treatment, and some contraception methods. She also did not mince words regarding Project 2025, which represents a potential roadmap for the next Republican presidency.

“There’s no neutral position come November 5th,” said Senator Warren. “It’s either a vote for Donald Trump, in which case they’ve already laid out the roadmap to take away access to abortion everywhere in America, not just in red states, but in Wisconsin, everywhere. Or, a vote for Joe Biden, and Joe Biden will protect access to abortion, access to contraception, and access to IVF.”

Senator Warren also stated that if the Democratic Party retains the Presidency and Senate and takes control of the House, Roe v. Wade will become the law of the land. She further noted that if the Democratic Party is unable to control either the House or the Senate, President Biden would take every possible executive action available to him to protect access to abortion.
