MILWAUKEE, Wis (Civic Media) – The first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee went off without major problems. That was the report from Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson Tuesday morning.

The RNC’s opening day saw former President Donald Trump secure the presidential nomination and announce U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance as his running mate.

“By my most important measures, things are going pretty well,” Johnson said, praising partners who ensured safety during Monday’s events, which included a large protest near the security zone.

Three arrests were reported Monday: one for disorderly conduct following the Coalition to March on the RNC protest, another when someone tried to climb a security fence, and a third involving a driver who refused to move their vehicle blocking traffic.

“Overall, it was a calm day, it was a peaceful day,” Johnson said, noting no injuries occurred during convention activities.
