MILWAUKEE, Wis (WAUK) – Governor Tony Evers revealed plans today for a special election in July to fill the vacant 4th Senate District (SD) seat.

Executive Order #225, signed by Governor Evers, orders that the special election for the 4th Senate District be held. This seat became vacant following the resignation of State Senator Lena Taylor, who stepped down from her position after being appointed to the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

The upcoming election for the 4th Senate District is scheduled for July 30, with a primary on July 2 if necessary.

Already, two Milwaukee Democrats, State Representatives Dora Drake and LaKeshia Myers, have expressed their intention to run for the vacant seat.

The 4th district includes part of the north side of the city of Milwaukee, the city of Glendale, village of Shorewood, and parts of northern Wauwatosa and western Brown Deer.

The special election for the 8th Congressional District will be held alongside the November election, with a primary on August 13. Thus far, State Senator Andre Jacque, former State Senator Roger Roth, and businessman Tony Wied have announced their intentions to seek the Republican nomination to replace Mike Gallagher, who resigned in the spring. Dr. Kristin Lyerly has announced plans to run as a Democrat.
