GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW) –  Brown County Board Chairman Patrick Buckley announces he is running for the newly formed 89th Assembly District. Buckley, a Republican, has served on the Brown County Board since 2010. Before that he was a businessman. He started his career in public service as a Green Bay Police officer.

According to a press release, Buckley is running for Assembly District 89 to bring a common sense approach to state government.

“Runaway inflation is forcing families to make difficult decisions,” said Buckley. “We need to cut waste out of government, streamline services to stretch taxpayers’ dollars while making smart investments to grow our economy. I have a proven track record here on the local level and I’ll bring that commonsense philosophy to the State Assembly.”

Buckley also points to his ability to work with people to build a consensus.

“It’s important to stand up for what’s right and bring people together to find common ground. I’ve done it here in Brown County, and I want to bring that leadership to Madison and deliver positive solutions for our community and state.”

In the press release, Buckley expresses pride in his efforts to pass the largest property tax rate cut in Brown County, and his achievements during his time on the Brown County Board, such as securing funding for the Brown County STEM Innovation Center.

Ryan Spaude, a Democrat, is also running for the newly drawn 89th Assembly District which includes the west side of the City of Green Bay and Ashwaubenon.

Brown County Board Chairman and former Green Bay Police Officer Patrick Buckley Launches Run for Wisconsin State Assembly

(Green Bay) Today, Brown County Board Chairman Patrick Buckley announced his candidacy for the newly formed 89th Assembly District that includes most of West Green Bay and Ashwaubenon.

Patrick (Pat) Buckley began his career in public service as a decorated Green Bay Police Officer, earning accolades after rushing into a burning building to save a young child. He would later transition to work as a full-time small business owner and grew a successful franchise throughout Northeastern Wisconsin. In 2010, he returned to public service as a Brown County Board member and was unanimously re-elected by his peers to serve as Chairman.

“As Chairman, I work hard to build consensus and deliver solutions on some of Brown County’s biggest problems. I’ll take that same approach with me to Madison,” said Buckley. “I led the way to secure millions in opioid funding and built a balanced plan that uses treatment, education, and enforcement to make a difference in the community. I’ve also worked to help build treatment courts to break the cycle of recidivism, so community members have a path of hope.”

Under the leadership of Chairman Buckley, Brown County made numerous community investments to encourage economic growth, including seed funding for the Brown County STEM Innovation Center which will educate the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs in Northeastern Wisconsin. Buckley has also worked to deliver funding for the Brown County Resch EXPO and Discover Green Bay Tourism Center to help keep our area as a top tourism destination in the state. Additionally, Chairman Buckley successfully worked to support manufacturing and the paper-making corridor through major infrastructure improvements.

“These were all forward-thinking investments we needed to make for us to remain competitive and attract family supporting jobs to our area,” said Buckley. “It’s important to stand up for what’s right and bring people together to find common ground. I’ve done it here in Brown County and I want to bring that leadership to Madison and deliver positive solutions for our community and state.”

Buckley is also known for working to pass the largest property tax rate cut in Brown County’s history, slashing county debt, and continuously eliminating wasteful spending in the county during his time on the board.
