GREEN BAY, WI – (WGBW & WISS) – A former Green Bay gas station chain owner is expected to announce that he is seeking the 8th Congressional District in Wisconsin this evening. Reports say Tony Wied will run for the seat being vacated by Republican Mike Gallagher on Monday.

On Sunday, Former President Donald Trump endorsed Wied in a social media post while urging fellow Republican Roger Roth to drop out of the race calling him a RINO and clone of former U.S. Representative Paul Ryan. Republican State Senator Andre Jacque of De Pere is also running for the heavily Republican district.

Alex Bruesewitz, a campaign strategist with close ties to Trump, was considering a run for the district but announced in a social media post on X Sunday that he would not be running in Wisconsin and endorsed Wied instead.

Kristin Lyerly, an OB-GYN from Ledgeview has announced she will run as a Democrat for the seat.

The 8th Congressional District includes Appleton and Green Bay, Door County, and rural counties north to the border of the Upper Penisula.

The primary will be held on August 13th.
