Rep. Krug and James Malouf discussed what Scott’s been working on for his constitutes during Mid-Day Magazine on February 2nd.

Election night results should be accurate

Rep. Krug is Chair of the Committee on Campaigns and Elections this cycle. His main focus is making sure the election in 2024 will not be a repeat of 2020. He’s not looking to make massive changes, but they are working on a bill that will allow clerks to process absentee ballots early. This will enable election night results to be more accurate.

Politics should be about relationship building

Rep. Krug stressed how important it is to build relationships with fellow politicians in both parties. He said it’s people talking to people. Once we get through the 2024 election, the next few years will be more calm because of the relationships being built now.

Relationship building will help the future of politics.

Election workers have protections

Another bill Rep. Krug worked on this session is one that enhances protections for election workers. The bipartisan bill also has protections in place for whistleblowers. He said we don’t have a system if people don’t participate, so we need to be sure everyone feels safe.

We value people participating in the system.

Trying to find agreement on Legislative Maps

On the issue of the legislative maps in the state, Rep. Krug said he felt there is a simple reason they didn’t get to a solution legislatively. He felt it’s because there were too many legislators who didn’t even look at the proposed maps.

Too many legislators didn’t even look at the proposed maps

He said the map that most people agreed on is the map Governor Evers proposed. However, they did make a few small changes to the map. Rep. Krug said there were state reps that were drawn out of their districts by a few feet or blocks on the governor’s map. This would require those representatives to move if they wanted to still represent their constituents. Governor Evers vetoed the proposed map.

We gave the governor 99.79 percent of what he wanted.
