MADISON, Wis. (Civic Media) – The group of ten Republicans who posed as fake electors for former President Donald Trump after the 2020 presidential election settled a civil lawsuit Wednesday admitting that they had tried to overturn the results of the election.

The lawsuit was brought forward by the liberal law firm Law Forward, and the settlement is the first time any false electors across the country have admitted to wrongdoing after the 2020 election.

Jeff Mandell, with Law Forward, talking with the Devil’s Advocates Radio Show about the civil lawsuit.

On December 14, 2020, the ten false electors were escorted into the state Capitol by armed security guards to draw up and sign the false documents saying that Donald Trump won the state of Wisconsin. Multiple recounts and court cases have affirmed that Joe Biden had won the state of Wisconsin by around 20,000 votes.

Under the terms of the settlement, the fake electors do not have to pay any monetary damages, but they are barred from serving as presidential electors in any future election involving Donald Trump, and have agreed to cooperate with any investigation from the federal Department of Justice relating to the 2020 presidential election.

Jeff Mandell, with Law Forward, talking with the Devil’s Advocates Radio Show Wednesday about what they wanted to get out of their civil lawsuit.

The 10 fake Wisconsin electors are Robert Spindell, who sits on the Wisconsin Elections Commission, Andrew Hitt, the former chair of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, Kelly Ruh, Carol Brunner, Scott Grabins, Bill Feehan, Kathy Kiernan, Darryl Carlson, Pam Travis, and Mary Buestrin.

In a statement with the settlement, the fake electors said, “On December 14, 2020, in compliance with requests received from the Trump campaign and the Republican Party of Wisconsin, we met at the Wisconsin State Capitol and executed a document titled ‘Certificate of the Votes of the 2020 Electors from Wisconsin.’”

“We oppose any attempt to undermine the public’s faith in the ultimate results of the 2020 presidential election. We hereby withdraw the documents we executed on December 14, 2020, and request that they be disregarded by the public and all entities to which they were submitted”

The fake electors say that they were tricked into the scheme. Andrew Hitt told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that they submitted the false documents as part of an at-the-time ongoing legal strategy.

While the 10 fake electors have ended their part in the civil lawsuit, their attorneys will continue to stand trial. Jim Troupis and Kenneth Chesebro are also named in the lawsuit. Speaking with the Devil’s Advocates Radio Show Wednesday, Jeff Mandell with Law Forward, who is heading the case, said that a settlement was not reached with the two attorneys, and they are set to stand trial in September.

False electors in three other states, Nevada, Michigan, and George, have been criminally charged for their role in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul has not yet indicated whether or not he is investigating Wisconsin’s fake electors.
