A wildfire is burning in Central Wisconsin and some evacuations are underway late Monday night.
The Department of Natural Resources and a dozen area fire departments are fighting the flames which cover more than 400 acres in rural Waushara County.
DNR officials indicate in a news release, the wildfire, being called the “Pallet Fire,” started along Cumberland Avenue in Coloma, north of Highway 21. It’s being reported the blaze quickly grew from 75 acres to as many as 800, but is now under control.
We talked with eyewitnesses who tell us smoke can be seen up to an hour outside of the area.
Officials are blaming hot temperatures, low humidity, and high winds for the expanding fire.
It’s not yet known what started the fire. There are no injuries reported.
