Second-half scoring drought dooms Wisconsin in NIT semifinal loss

LAS VEGAS (Civic Media) – Wisconsin fell to North Texas 56-54 in the National Invitation Tournament semifinal Thursday.
The Badgers were held without a point for the final 9:07 of the game.
Wisconsin led by 12 at halftime and went up 54-46 with under 10 minutes to play in the game, but the Mean Green were able to use a 10-0 run to finish off the Badgers and advance to the NIT Championship, which will be played on Thursday.
North Texas took its first lead of the game with 2:07 remaining. The Mean Green’s defense held the Badgers to 24% shooting in the second half and 37.5% shooting for the game.
Wisconsin finishes the season 20-15. North Texas improved to 30-7 and will play fellow Conference USA member UAB for the NIT title. Conference USA is 16-1 in the postseason, with Charlotte winning the College Basketball Invitational and Florida Atlantic University playing in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament.
The NIT Championship will be held on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
