A ‘Monumental’ Faceoff for Women (2nd Hour)
On this first day of National Women’s Month, we reveal what’s holding up a bill introduced one year ago by Sen. Tammy Baldwin to memorialize women who fought and sacrificed for decades to win the right to vote.
A Covey of Quislings (2nd Hour)
Former Chicago Tribune metro editor Mark Jacob helps us review recent media activity—such as Tucker Carlson’s Moscow visit/love letter to Putin, and a major political newspaper fawns over Jared Kushner without noting how he was enriched by a mysterious $2 billion Saudi payoff.
Live from the Super Bowl (2nd Hour)
We are joined live by Civic Media’s Mike Clemens who’s in Las Vegas for Super Bowl 58. He’ll tell us the latest as Kansas City and San Francisco prepare for Sunday’s big game… which is third in line for the national attention span, right after commercials and Taylor Swift.
Why Newspapers Can’t Have Nice Things (2nd Hour)
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel becomes the latest news outlet to belatedly shut down its comments sections, succumbing to the already-obvious notion that it’s impossible for a few to grow flowers in a place where so many are willing to dump their manure. And in Chicago, newspaper workers stage a historic walkout to protest corporate ownership that has slashed and burned a once proud industry. Plus: We wrap up our updates with candidates running in the 3rd Congressional District Democratic primary, checking in with Eric Wilson.
Is Trump Above the Law? (2nd Hour)
The former president is in a lot of legal hot water, but his supporters and attorneys claim the laws at the heart of his criminal cases and ballot eligibility don’t actually apply to him. We’ll talk to former US Attorney Jim Santelle, who now hosts a Saturday morning show on Civic Media. Plus, Mark Jacob reviews this week’s media coverage of the campaign; and Dan Schumacher previews this weekend in sports.
Slow Learners in the National Newsroom (Hour 2)
Only three days until the Iowa caucuses and the national press coverage of the 2024 presidential campaign shows how little has been learned in newsrooms about covering the first major presidential candidate to demonstrate a willingness to upend American democracy. Mark Jacob joins Pat for the conversation.
Plus, Civic Media Meteorologist Brittney Merlot gives an update on the weather conditions coming with the winter storm in the area. Pat also dives into an update on the rolling back of child labor protections in Wisconsin, and what some companies in the state have added to the "cost of business." Dan Schumacher joins for his weekly visit to talk the NFL playoffs.

So Much Sports! (Hour 2)
We’re not normally a sports talk show—but it’s Friday, the political news isn’t terribly optimistic, and there’s so much to talk about in sports. The Badger men’s hockey team just upset the No. 1 ranked team in the country. The Bucks season opens with a new powerhouse combo. It’s Packers-Vikings weekend. The Badger football team is on national TV Saturday night. The Badger women’s hockey and volleyball teams are among the best in the nation. The World Series starts tonight. And Jimmie Kaska tells us about this weekend’s second round of the state high school football playoffs.
And Then There Were Five (Hour 2)
This week a fifth candidate entered the race for Congress, seeking the Democratic nomination in the 3rd District to challenge Republican Derrick Van Orden next year. We’ll ask Eric Wilson of Eau Claire why he’s running. We’ll cover this week’s media coverage of national and international news with Mark Jacob. And Jimmie Kaska gets us set for the first round of the WIAA high school football playoffs.
Boy Math Can’t Get to 217 (Hour 2)
Author and media critic Mark Jacob helps explain the inability of the people running the US House of Representatives to choose a new Speaker. We’ll also discuss the coverage of the conflict in Israel.
