Jodi Emerson

Guns, Politics, and the Human Connection

August 27, 2025

In this hour, Maggie confronts the heartbreaking reality of gun violence in the wake of a tragic school shooting in Minneapolis. She shares her frustration with the nation’s reactive approach to gun control and echoes Trey Gowdy’s call for preventive action. Maggie makes a passionate case for common-sense reforms — including stronger background checks and closing dangerous loopholes. Later, Rep. Jodi Emerson joins Maggie to discuss her ongoing work to combat human trafficking, highlighting how community awareness and empathy play a critical role in prevention. Through it all, Maggie reminds us of the importance of holding onto our humanity, even in the midst of political division and tragedy.

Legislators Summer School (Hour 3)

August 11, 2025

Every profession needs a good national organization dedicated to best practices, ongoing education, and a little morale boosting. For state lawmakers, that’s the role of the National Conference of State Legislators. We’ll talk to Rep. Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) about this year’s convention discussions — and the difference between a group like NCSL vs. similar groups focused on partisanship and division.

We’ll also check in with Civic Media friends Greg Bach and John & Gordy.

Mornings with Pat Kreitlow is powered by UpNorthNews, and it airs on several stations across the Civic Media radio network, Monday through Friday from 6-9 am. May 1, 2025

We’re joined by two Chippewa Valley legislators, Sen. Jeff Smith and Rep. Jodi Emerson, who will discuss the latest Donald Trump budget cuts to community volunteer programs—and we’ll see if the money budgeted two years ago for a healthcare crisis in their area is still being held hostage by Republican lawmakers.

Still a Brick Wall, For Now (Hour 2)

November 18, 2024

New maps did the right thing: giving Wisconsin more competitive races and a more balanced Legislature. But the diminished number of Republicans lawmakers showed they remain indifferent to the voice of the voters, returning Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to a position that lets him bottle up the things that could benefit the state. We’ll talk to Rep. Jodi Emerson and Rep.-elect Christian Phelps about their hopes for putting a few cracks in the Speaker’s brick wall.

Hi Jodi! (Hour 2)

October 8, 2024

Not everybody knows their state legislator, but it kind of feels that way around Eau Claire, where Assembly Rep. Jodi Emerson has been serving her community for years. Her political ads are a welcome dose of positive vibes in a swamp of negativity. And Congressman Mark Pocan makes his regular monthly visit and he’ll pull no punches when we ask him about colleagues like Rep. Derrick Van Orden and Sen. Ron Johnson who voted against helping make sure FEMA can help the victims of hurricanes past and very near future.

We Are NOT Going Back.

September 7, 2024

Kamala Harris said it simply and surely: we are NOT going back. We ARE going forward!

Attorney Mark Thomsen talks with four women today about the absolute necessity to elect our first female president. Not only is Kamala Harris merited for President as an individual, we MUST act to restore the rights of all women to make appropriate decisions for themselves, regardless of their home state in this country.

Mark interviews Representative Jodi Emerson of Wisconsin AD 91, who is running for re-election. She celebrates the new challenge she faces in her newly solid purple district. Before this year's redistricting, it was bluest blue. Because though she now faces true competition, it means that others do too, and Wisconsin will secure better representation by it.

Next, Mark talks with Karen Kirsch, candidate for AD 7. Karen left the private sector due to a pressing call to serve her community, and she has found great fulfillment working for the public.

The icing on the cake this week: an exclusive interview with Senator Tammy Baldwin. Tammy has worked hard to achieve real results that benefit Wisconsinites. She loves this state and the people she represents. There can be no clearer contrast between her and her opponent.

And Luke Mathers helps us review the final Wisconsin episode of Top Chef-Wisconsin before the finalists are put out to sea for the finals.
