Big Bucks and No Bucks (Hour 3)
We’ll talk to Dan Shafer of The Recombobulation Area about this week’s political headlines. In one instance, an early candidate for governor in 2026 is making his first big TV ad buy—seriously. And in next year’s state Supreme Court race, the incumbent conservative justice reported raising absolutely no campaign contributions in the most recent reporting period. Is Rebecca Bradley thinking about not running for another term or —as has been the case for some Republicans lately— is she counting on outside money to do most of the heavy lifting?

Ron Doesn’t Feel Comfy (Hour 2)
In the second hour, Dan Shafer is hanging out and we're looking the race to the Governor's mansion in 2026 with a new name declaring his candidacy. And then Wisconsin's Senior Senator Ron Johnson isn't feeling comfy about The Big Bill For Billionaire, on which he voted "yes". For today's Audio Sorbet, we want to know: what purchases have you made after having one too many adult beverage. And we're celebrating the weekend with This Shouldn't Be A Thing - Blueberry Hill Edition

I Didn’t Vote For That! (Hour 1)
Protesters in Congressman Derrick Van Orden's district protested in front of his office yesterday to let him know how unhappy they are with The Big Bill For Billionaires and his "yes" vote. And it looks like a very popular podcaster is unhappy with the policies of The Felon President, but unfortunately, Andrew Schultz doesn't know how elections work. Dan Shafer is Civic Media's Political Editor and founder of The Recombobulation Area and he is here to talk about the Wisconsin budget aftermath, including what still needs to be addressed like childcare.

Trade Tensions and Local Politics: Wisconsin’s Crossroads
Maggie dives into the complexities of Wisconsin’s shifting political and economic landscape. This hour begins with a close look at the state’s contentious budget—the first in over a decade to require Democratic votes due to newly drawn fair maps. Dan Shafer unpacks how Governor Evers and Democratic lawmakers navigated negotiations and whether they effectively used their newfound leverage. The conversation then shifts to local policy as Jeremy Jannene discusses Milwaukee’s "Vision Zero" initiative, an ambitious plan to eliminate traffic fatalities through strategic urban redesign and policy reform. Finally, Mark Sommerhauser explores Wisconsin’s evolving trade dynamics, revealing a 32% surge in imports since 2012 despite a drop in exports. With China and the EU as top trade partners, the conversation turns to the looming risks posed by escalating tariffs and global instability. Pivotal decisions are shaping Wisconsin's future.

A Tale Of Two Budgets with Dan Shafer (Hour 1)
Today, two new budgets have officially passed. At about 1:30 this morning, Governor Evers signed our state budget into law with a series of line item vetoes. Similarly, President Trump’s budget reconciliation bill passed shortly before our show began today, with plans to sign it into law tomorrow. Todd begins with a focus on the federal budget and the dire consequences it will have for people all over the country.
At the bottom of the hour, Civic Media Political Editor and Founder of The Recombobulation Area Dan Shafer joins us to cover our new state budget. He stayed up late last night with Chali Pittman and Jimmie Kaska of Civic Media News to keep up with everything going on in the Capitol building, and you can read their recap at civicmedia.us.

Budgets And A Garden Of Heroes (Hour 1)
In breaking news, The Wisconsin Supreme Court in a 4-3 decision has invalided the controversial 1849 Abortion Ban. Also, and we planned for this to be the big news, but The Big Bill For Billionaires has passed with the help of Senator Ron Johnson. Also, what would you do with $40 million? I'll bet it wouldn't be to build a "garden of heroes". Then, because we are off for the Fourth Of July, we are joined by Civic Media's Political Editor Dan Shafer to talk about the tentative state budget, a third term for Governor Tony Evers(?) and Dan's new best friend on Twitter.

Fair Maps, Fair Budget (Hour 1)
We’ll review reaction to the new state budget deal, perhaps best summed up as having something for everyone to like—and hate. The Joint Finance Committee passed it on Tuesday, so the full Senate and Assembly will both be in session today to consider it. Meanwhile, the US Senate passed the largest transfer of wealth and ending of healthcare coverage in American history—but that doesn’t mean Republicans in the US House will send it on to President Trump.
