Ben Wikler

Civic Media Spotlight for Weekend of December 7th, 2024 (Hour 1)

December 7, 2024

Kicking off this hour, the Earl Ingram Show is joined by Wisconsin's own Ben Wikler to discuss his bid for Chairman of the National Democratic party and the reasons he believes the Democrats did not see the results they wanted in November.

Then on UpNorthNews Radio, Ron ‘Duff’ Martin, an Eau Claire teacher who serves on the executive board of the National Education Association, talked about how this week’s overturning of Act 10 by a court can play a role in improving public education in Wisconsin. There will still be appeals of the ruling that strikes down former Gov. Scott Walker’s signature law that gutted public employee unions in the state in 2011, but Martin said if the final outcome is the reinstatement of collective bargaining rights, then unions will be able to negotiate working conditions that will help retain teachers and address worsening shortages, especially in rural districts.

On Matenaer On Air this week, former assembly candidate and county party volunteer Emily Tseffos joined the show to discuss what the Democrats need to do post election and the conversations that need to be had. She also speaks about the conversations that need to be had between voters and what keeps us connected and not divided. Emily also speaks about what needs to happen on the county party level with regard to long range planning for future elections.

The hour wraps with a segment from the Maggie Daun Show, where Maggie shares her takes on the news of the week that a county judge has ruled certain portions of the 2011 Act 10 unconstitutional and what is likely to come next in the battle to return collective bargaining rights back to public sector unions.

Have Hope! (Hour 1)

November 4, 2024

Guest: Ben Wikler

We are NEARLY there! Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler joins us for a pre-election check-in. Early voting numbers look great- around the country over 75 million people have already fulfilled their civic obligation. In Wisconsin, polling places report double-digit percentages of people who registered and then voted. People are engaged, and the American voters are ready to Turn. The. Page.

On that note, we are optimistic- perhaps nauseously so- of Harris' victory tomorrow. Dom predicts a 10-point popular vote swamping of Trump. Producer Jess carries more anxiety about it, but what we're hearing sounds really good.

For a one-stop shop to check your voter registration, find your polling location, and practice voting with a sample ballot, go to myvote.wi.gov. Make a plan to vote and fulfill your CIVIC duty!

Then we change gears for some sports ball talking with Journal Sentinel Writer and Sports Guru JR Radcliff. And because it's the spooky season, This Shouldn't Be A Thing is a Scary Clown Edition

Afterwards, Maggie interviews Senator Tammy Duckworth on Donald Trump's disdain for military servicemembers.

At the bottom of the hour, we are pleased to welcome Professor Charles Franklin, pollster extraordinaire of the Marquette Law School Poll. This election season has been an incredibly eventful one, and Charles Franklin has his finger on the pulse of American voters. One of these candidates actually seems like a protector (Hour 2)

September 24, 2024

Guest: Ben Wikler

First, a short update on the federal case being prosecuted against Trump for inciting a violent insurrection on January 6th, 2021. Then, an update from Springfield Ohio. A non-profit group, Haitian Bridge Alliance, filed criminal charges against both Donald Trump and JD Vance. The charges assert that the intentional lies spread by the two imperil the Haitian immigrants in Springfield and throughout the country.

Ben Wikler, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, joins us for the second half hour. As the majority of voters tune in fully for this election cycle, Ben lays out the stakes and the energy in this sprint to election day. Differences between the two major party candidates abound. Do you want higher taxes? Do you want more investments in social goods? Kamala Harris's platform will support YOU. Donald Trump's platform supports Donald Trump. Jump Around with Ben Wikler (Hour 1)

August 13, 2024

Guest: Ben Wikler

Today is Wisconsin’s Fall primary election. Make sure to be a voter! Todd talks about the importance of today’s ballot.

Last night, Elon Musk interviewed Donald Trump on Twitter/X Spaces. The event was mired in technical issues, and once it began, it was more of the same lies from Trump. However, there were a few things of note. Trump sounded like he had a lisp, bringing speculation about dentures. He also compared the Time Magazine portrait of Kamala Harris to his wife! Do all women truly look the same to him? Todd tells us what we need to know.

At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Ben Wikler jumps on the show to celebrate the explosion of energy that Kamala Harris has brought to Democratic voters. This is an exciting time for Americans, as we all have the opportunity to make history by electing the first female president. He also emphasizes the importance of voting NO on both referendums tonight.
