Let’s Talk Pets
This week’s issue goes to the dogs…and cats…and all the animals. The Cover Story is on J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue. Teri Barr brings us stories on how pets and people help each other, and Radio for Pets. We’ll look at the adoptable pets at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society. Peter and Tracy Fluke explain how to stay safe when walking or biking in the winter. We’ll look back in time with the Richland County Historical Society. Meteorologist Brittney Merlot looks at how pets deal with the cold. And a heartfelt recollection of the best dog, ever, by Amanda Nimmer with a message about not giving up on pets.

Literacy & Safety
Former radio pro and all-around great guy Eric Sponholtz with Literacy Green Bay joins the guys to discuss Giving Tuesday and the opportunities our listeners have to support organizations like Literacy Green Bay. Eric also suggests volunteering at the organization as a way to give back. Then, our biking friends Peter and Tracy Flucke are in to discuss winter safety for walkers and bikers. (If you're wondering, yes. They did ride their tandem bike to the studio. Yes...in this bitterly cold weather!) Some of their suggestions include wearing ice spikes on your shoes and wearing bright and reflective clothing (because it's so dark out this time of year). Check out their website if you'd like to follow them on their biking journey.

Neighborhood Focus (Hour 3)
Every week we're lucky to welcome some of the great reporters from NBC26 in our neighborhood focus. The guys start the segment talking about food and culture in Northeast Wisconsin. Eventually, Nina is allowed to talk about one of the stories that NBC26 is working on. October is Manufacturing Month, and NBC26 is telling the story of companies all over the area that make international products. Then, local author Aaron Qualio joins Jim, John, and Nina in the studio to talk about some of the books he's written. He writes fiction rooted in local history and local stories. Click HERE to find his books. Then, show favorites Peter and Tracy Flucke swing in with their tandem bike to let us know they're on their way up to Door County for a few days.

Weekly Best of Maino and the Mayor for Jul 20
Jim and John welcome Tracy Flucke & Brown County Parks Director Matt Kriese to talk about the Fox River Trail. They talk about the history of the trail, a few of the rules when using the trail, and also how the trail is funded. Get more details about the trail HERE. Then we're happy to have Kim Theil who has been an entrepreneur for many years as a photographer in Green Bay and the Valley. Now, she and her daughters are opening a new donut shop in Kimberly. They just purchased the building and are in the process of doing demolition (Maino wants to show up with a sledgehammer to help). The hope is to be open this fall. We're lucky that Kim has agreed to take us along on the ride on this journey. Check out their Facebook page HERE.

Peter and Tracy are kind enough to stick around for another segment. Frank Hermans digs in with questions about some of the challenges they faced on their tandem bike trip to New York City. A special guest joins us from A-Frame Acres...yep, Big Wayne is in the house. He stopped in to bring the Mayor some celery and garlic. Check out his Facebook page HERE. Then "Mr. Grand" (at least that's what we call him) Joe Ferlo joins from The Grand in Oshkosh gives us a look at their 2024-25 season schedule. Lots of great performances are in store! Sports Medicine, Bikes in New York & Fox Valley Veterans Council (Hour 2)
An amazing hour starts off with simple, yet very important, information about stretching before and after any activity. Mark Husen with Bellin Sports Medicine is in studio to guide us with that information. Then we hear from two very amazing athletes who can back up what Mark says, Peter and Tracy Flucke. 29 days and over 1500 miles later, they arrived in New York City after traveling on their tandem bike from Green Bay. If you missed any of their journey, you can find them on Facebook or on their website HERE. Then Tim Cody from the Fox Valley Veterans Council joins the show and talks a bit about some of the services that the council provides to veterans in the area. If you'd like more details on the services or need to connect for assistance, click HERE.

Otis, The Fluckes & D-Day (Hour 1)
A very busy show this morning. Maino is out doing a show with Otis this morning so Shannon Cohen from New Community Shelter sits in this morning. We DO check in with Maino and Otis but we're also honored to share some very wonderful stories from some of Maino's books, honoring local veterans who were part of D-Day 80 years ago. Some amazing stories! The Fluckes, Peter and Tracy, the tandem bike riders who are on their way to New York, join us to update us on their trip. They're about 2/3rds of the way through their trip. You can follow their journey on their website HERE. Then Alyssa Gilson from Associate Bank joins to talk about their Day of Service.

Bellin Sports Medicine & Tandem Bikes (Hour 2)
Mark Husen joins us in the studio from Bellin Sports Medicine and he's got great information about "heat stress". When temperatures get this hot, this fast, sometimes we don't think about how the heat can affect our bodies, whether we're working out or just doing everyday things outside. This is great information for all of us! Then our favorite tandem bikers, Peter and Tracy Flucke, join us LIVE from the road on their trip to New York! This morning they check in about 50 miles east of Wheeling, WV. We've been following them on their Facebook page, and you should, too! Click HERE.
