We Cannot Let Fear Triumph (Hour 1)
To begin today’s show, Todd addresses some listener comments. Last week as we approached Independence Day, many of you expressed that celebration felt inappropriate for last weekend in light of the Trump administration’s horrendous acts. While Todd still believes that we should focus on striving for a better America, he doesn’t want to downplay the severity of current events. This may well be one of the darkest moments in American history since the civil war. Ultimately, while policy decisions being made right now are dangerous and deadly, the rhetoric may be even more harmful to our country. The dehumanization of minorities and escalating fear may lead to a day where citizens are too afraid to vote or otherwise make their voices heard. We cannot let MAGA take away our hope.
At the bottom of the hour, Wisconsin Watch Reporter Tom Kertscher joins us to share his latest fact brief on common claims about President Trump’s new federal budget. People across the political spectrum have lots to say about this new budget, and Tom is here to help us sort out the truth.

Protecting Our Pollinators with Amy Barrilleaux (Hour 2)
We begin today’s second hour with another check-in from Wisconsin Watch Reporter Tom Kertscher. He joins us to share his reporting on the Wisconsin Democratic Convention that was held near Wisconsin Dells this weekend. One of his biggest takeaways is that Democrats agree that MAGA authoritarianism is a real threat to our democracy, but there is little if any agreement on how to address the issue. Tom also shares his latest fact briefs, which are short fact checks on things our elected officials claim.
At the bottom of the hour, Clean Wisconsin Communications Director Amy Barrilleaux joins us to celebrate National Pollinator Month! Today, Amy talks about common chemicals and pesticides that hurt pollinators and what we can do to reduce exposure.

Fact Checking The RPW Convention with Tom Kertscher (Hour 2)
This afternoon, Wisconsin Watch Reporter and Fact Checker Tom Kertscher returns to cover the latest political news in our state. One of his latest articles highlights Wisconsin’s tremendous decline in childhood vaccination rate. Over the past 30 years, the number of Wisconsin parents electing not to vaccinate their children has grown four times larger, endangering the “herd immunity” of children. This is likely due at least in part to increasing vaccine skepticism fueled by figures like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
After the vaccine discussion, Tom shares some of his latest Fact Briefs, which are essentially succinct fact checks. Here are a few responses on statements shared at our state’s Republican Party Convention:
- Would ‘the vast majority’ of Americans get a 65% tax increase if GOP megabill doesn’t become law? Short answer: no.
- Does Mississippi rank higher than Wisconsin in fourth grade reading scores? Short answer: yes, but with some caveats.
- Is being transgender classified as a mental illness? Short answer: no.
