A1 Steak Sauce

April 14, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

On this Monday, Johnny-Well-Read and Gordy complain about the incompleteness of the new studio, before launching into an abridged version of the National Day Calendar. We chat with Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report, getting a recap of the Great Midwest Horse Fair, and also news about economic worry by farmers as they head into spring. In Idiocracy, we talk Linda McMahon and her recent comments about "A1" - not A1 Steak Sauce, but what is more commonly known as AI. The guys interrogate Sam about his experience at the world's largest trivia contest over the weekend, and wrap up the hour talking with a caller about other things we misread, including the British military intelligence group MI6.

The Great Midwest Horse Fair

April 11, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

Its Friday! After complaining about frost on their windows, we dive into the fun of the National Day Calendar, and chat with the Midwest Farm Babe Pam Jahnke about the upcoming Great Midwest Horse Fair, the Wisconsin Meat Hall of Fame, and more! Later, we enter another edition of Idiocracy, talking Laura Loomer's insanity, rising political star Mallary McMorrow, and also RFK Jr.'s incompetence. Wrapping up, we get some input from listeners, with their take on the Idiocracy.

A Fake Economist

April 7, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

Despite their slogging pace, John and Gordy have a good time getting this week going. They chat about the National Day Calendar, and also welcome on Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report, this time talking about another surge in bird flu, and also some studies being done on farm family use (or lack thereof) of health insurance. Later in Idiocracy, we talk more agriculture, and the Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins - who really doesn't care about farmers. The discussion turns to the Bureau of Fiscal Services - now gutted (and replaced) by DOGE, and we close out the hour talking tariffs, and Peter Navarro - who created a fake "expert economist," cited in his book, to promote the detrimental economic policy.

Dive, Dive, Dive!

April 4, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

Its Friday! The guys kick off the show with more talk about Liberation Day (being liberated from our money), and also go through The National Day Calendar. After a quick check in with their producer Sam for Today in History, we welcome on Pam Jahnke of the Midwest Farm Report, getting the low-down on what farmers are dealing with - with tariffs, market instability, and the beginning of the end for farm-to-school nutrition programs. We dive into today's dose of Idiocracy, talking more about the (dumb) tariffs, and ensuing stock market dive yesterday. We talk with some callers about the issue, and hear from the PM of a country we now have tariffs on - inhabited only by penguins. We even hear from Ben Shapiro (!) about how damaging the economic policy will be.

Reeducation by Ken Burns

March 28, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

Its Friday! John and Gordy remark about the storm rolling through and the unusually warm day ahead, before jumping into the National Day Calendar, chatting in their old age about Triglyceride Day. We welcome on Pam Jahnke of the Midwest Farm Report to chat about the success this week of Ag day at the capitol, and ARIP, the Agricultural Road Improvement Program. Later we dive into Idiocracy with a clip of Marjorie Taylor Greene absolutely bashing a British reporter, and talk more about the Signal text debacle. Wrapping up the first half of the show, we cover a story out of Oklahoma, where the governor fired the state forester, over his supposed inaction during the state's wildfires - though the governor himself was "on spring break" at the time.

We’ll Come Right to Your Door!

March 24, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

John and Gordy, live in their new studio, react with chaos to the gigantic desk in their tiny room. They retreat to cyberspace, taking a look at the internet's National Day Calendar, then chat with Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report, discussing flatlining milk production across the country. Later, we dive into Idiocracy, talking more pushback Republicans are receiving at town halls, and also protests against Fox News, by veterans. We touch on the story of how Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins is not a fan of farms (lol) and wrap up the first hour with a dystopian idea: the end of price tags, from impulsive, tailored online buying.

Civic Media Spotlight for March 22nd & 23rd (Hour 2)

March 22, 2025

To begin this hour, we check in on a conversation had on Maino & the Mayor this week. Cari Josephson from the Walk To End Alzheimer's brings a special guest with her: former Wisconsin Governor Marty Schreiber. Governor Schreiber has recently penned a book called My Two Elaines about his story of caregiving for his wife, Elaine. H e writes about having to watch his beloved wife gradually transform from the woman who had gracefully entertained in the Executive Residence to one who sometimes no longer recognized him as her husband. Net proceeds from the sales of My Two Elaines will be used to promote Alzheimer’s caregiver support programs.

After that, on the John and Gordy Show, the guys chat with Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report about some stories on her radar this week, including big changes coming to milk processing for cheese, and a new study out analyzing just how rural Wisconsin is these days.

Next, the Dom Salvia Show - with Matt Rothschild as cohost - talks with Julie Bomar, executive director of Wisconsin Farmers Union, about the devastating impact of President Trump's service cuts on Wisconsin farmers and food insecure populations. The programs cut in Wisconsin also linked farmers directly to schools, providing high quality nutritious food for students.

Closing out the week, UpNorthNews’ Christina Lorey joins Nite Lite with Pete Schwaba! Christina and Pete talk about the great work that UpNorthNews does, the best frozen pizzas in Wisconsin, and some inventions you might not know were from Wisconsin.

Where’s The Gold?!

March 21, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

The guys are live once again at Gordy's home studio as the one at WMDX is rebuilt. After John expounds his exhaustion, caused by his Kraken (an energetic dog), we dive into the National Day Calendar. Pam Jahnke, the Fabulous Farm Babe from the Midwest Farm Report, joins the show as she does every Monday and Friday to chat about the virtues of chocolate milk, a new study analyzing the "ruralness" of Wisconsin, and how the dairy industry is changing with new, giant cheese plants out of state. Later, we dive into Idiocracy for the day, talking how funding cuts for food banks are hurting the farmers who supply those banks - right here in Wisconsin. We touch on the story of a Massachusetts councilman who wants to ban sales of all products sold by Musk-owned companies, and also talk the effect of covid on schools - and the people who control the schools. Closing out, get out your tinfoil hats! The guys look into a conspiracy theory espoused by Trump, that Fort Knox's gold has disappeared.

The Pie Master

March 17, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

Because apparently St. Patty's day preempts every other (real or fake) holiday, the guys don't have a ton to cover on the National Day Calendar or in the History Books, but luckily Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report is here to get us in gear with today's show. After chatting with her about the likely ending of a farm-to-school lunch program, we dive into Idiocracy, covering the dumb political news of the day. We talk Cyber Trucks and regular trucks, the latter going up significantly in price with the recent tariffs. After chatting with a caller about both wanting to annex Greenland, and take Denmark's eggs, we close out the first hour recapping Pi Day on Friday, and John's burnout from the news.

Mail Time With Johnny

March 14, 2025

Guest: Pam Jahnke

Its Friday! The guys kick off making fun of how the White House lawn was turned into a Tesla sales lot earlier this week. After checking out the National Day Calendar, we chat with Pam Jahnke from the Midwest Farm Report about what's going on in her world, including the renewed Rain Gauge Rally, a push for citizen scientists to report rainfall. Later, we dive into yet another edition of Idiocracy, discussing organized labor, with some unorthodox anti-labor mailings John received. Speaking of breaking things and dismantling rights, we check in with DOGE's latest activities, covering the firing of veterans who work for the federal government. Wrapping up the first hour, we talk Wisconsin lawmakers Derrick Van Orden and Tom Tiffany, thoroughly out of touch with how the government actually works.
