A Few of Our Favorite Things

June 7, 2025

Today on Raised in Wisco Joel, Ellie, Danielle, and the WHOLE TEAM discuss their favorite things to celebrate Joel's "43rd birthday". It's a fun, laid back sort of episode where we focus on the good parts of life and think about things that just make us smile. Hunting wild turkeys and cooking their gizzards, traveling the Mojave and tracking down lizards, visiting the highlands and meeting the King, these are a few of our favorite things.

Born in Wisconsin and making their adventuresome lives here, Joel Kleefisch and Danielle Fairman are Raised in Wisco. Each week, we connect YOU to the incredible natural resources of our state. Whether you’re looking to find new ways to take food from field to table or for new outdoor hobbies, we’ve got you covered! Hunting Sheep in Croatia

May 10, 2025

9/10 hunters agree that Wisconsin is THE best place in the whole wide world to enjoy the outdoors. We know that better than anyone around here on Raised in Wisco. But a man has needs, and sometimes what he needs is to fly to Croatia with his buddy to hunt wild European sheep in the foothills of Croatia. We've all felt that urge, but this week our host Joel Kleefisch reveals the exciting story of how he actually done went and did just that! So please join us to hear about hunting sheep in Croatia and MUCH MORE as Joel, Ellie, and Danielle are joined by George Ermert and Megan Salazar on an exciting episode of Raised in Wisco.

George Ermert is a board member for the Wisconsin Waterfowl Association.

Megan Salazar is from the Woman's Hunting and Sporting Association.

Producer Jakob gets to talk for the first time in months and boy is he a hoot and a half.*

The Culinary Edition

March 15, 2025

Wisco, at the end of the day, what is this program? That's right, all together now: A COOKING SHOW! In honor of Joel's favorite dish, food, today's episode features culinary artists Ellie Lawton-Smoller, Megan Salazar, and Alex Ezell, with Mike Kretschmer along for commentary. Still, we begin with some Weekly Wiscos- highlights (or, er, lowlights in one case) of life in Wisconsin. And then, it's into the food. Ellie, Alex, and Megan- and sure let's add Kretsch for the cheese- prepared an absolute culinary delight of four courses. To entice and induce the ultimate jealousy, they share excruciating, delicious details of each one. The crowning culinary jewels of a triple Wisconsin meat bolognese and masterful apple pie will leave you drooling.

When they're not creating astounding works of edible art, Alex and Megan lead First Hunt Foundation's Wisconsin chapter. This organization prepares first-time hunters for their introductions to safety and community in hunting.

Shut the Cluck Up!!!

January 4, 2025

Happy New Year, Wisconsin! We start off this new year of 2025 just like we finished t2024- talking about all the great things Wisconsin offers in her beautiful outdoors. A few days ago Joel, Danielle, and our friend Ellie Lawton-Smoller went turkey hunting. Now that's not surprising. But one thing was different- who secured the permission for them to hunt on the land, and who did the scouting. Usually, Joel takes care of these details. This time, Danielle did it all. All didn't go as expected- in fact it was nearly a clucking disaster! Nearly...

Mike Kretschmer, friend of the show and frequent Joel-ribber, joins us. This time, he's not just here to tease our host but also to represent Ney's Premium Meats and Sweets, where he leads operations. Mike shares some tips for scoring the perfect cut of meat for any occasion and what to look for in terms of meat grading.

First Hunt Wisconsin- This Time It’s Personal (for Producer Jess)

August 24, 2024

Hey hey hey, it's another Women's Zone episode! First Hunt Wisconsin's state director Alex Ezell and deputy state director Megan Salazar join solo-host Danielle Fairman and Producer Jess. A few weeks ago, Joel encouraged Jess to buy a leftover turkey tag AND offered to take her on her first hunting trip. Well, we're following through on that. Jess is going to go hunting for the first time, which means she needs First Hunt experts. Megan and Alex walk us through the steps any first-time hunter will need for a fantastic first experience.

As usual, we take some time to highlight our favorite Wisco happenings this week. And stay tuned for our weekly recipe, it's ducking great!
