Cuts, Court Chaos, and Veteran Vexations

May 22, 2025

Maggie unpacks a week of political upheaval, starting with the House's late-night passage of a bill slashing vital programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and food assistance. She explores the devastating consequences for millions—particularly veterans—who rely on these federal benefits. The conversation intensifies with a deep dive into the Supreme Court’s controversial stay, which greenlights Trump’s removals at the National Labor and Relations Board (NLRB), raising alarm bells about judicial overreach and democratic backsliding. Joined by Allison McManus, Managing Director for the National Security and International Policy department at Center For American Progress, Maggie highlights how the looming budget cuts will severely affect veterans. She also challenges narratives blaming left-wing media for political violence, turning the spotlight on the MAGA regime’s role in escalating tensions. The episode is a powerful call for accountability, clarity, and unity in the face of growing authoritarianism.

Will They Be Coming For You?

March 19, 2025

Dr. Melinda Brennan, Executive Director of the Wisconsin ACLU, joins Maggie to discuss the current administration's immigration policy. The hard question - why should we care about what happens to immigrants? Caring means we care about due process, respect human dignity, and want the best outcome for our schools, communities and families and not destroy the economy in the process. This should be a problem we all care about on an ideological level. Dr. Brennan also explains that basic human rights are on the ballot on April 1. So vote early or vote on election day, but make your plan to vote. To see more from each of the Wisconsin Supreme Court candidates, take a look at the ACLU's questionnaire: https://www.aclu-wi.org/en/publications/2025-supreme-court-wisconsin-candidate-questionnaire. Plus, Jeramey Jannene from "Urban Milwaukee" joins Maggie for "Milwaukee As A Microcosm." Jeramey breaks some news from the Department of Transportation. Grants for upwards of $110 million in upgrades to roads, bikes lanes, and other improvements around the state are now under scrutiny by the Trump administration. The World Is A Microcosm

February 27, 2025

Jeramey Jannene from Urban Milwaukee joins Maggie and Tom this hour for our new segment, "Milwaukee in a Microcosm." They begin by discussing Tearman Spencer. Read up: https://urbanmilwaukee.com/2025/02/26/former-city-attorney-pleads-not-guilty-case-bound-over-for-trial/.

It's worth your time. Turns out local politics has it's issues...and looks a lot like what's happening on the federal level. All the stuff happening in your city can impact you and your family more than what's happening in Washington D.C. Plus, the Miami of the Midwest will see fewer cruise ships in 2025. Jeramey points out that multiple cruise ship lines will be reducing their Great Lakes offerings in 2025.

Maggie and Tom also discuss DEI...or lack there of in this current America. DEI is about breaking barriers so all people have the opportunity to thrive in schools and the workplace. It promotes and supports diversity in all forms and works to address and eliminate any form of discrimination and bias. Here are some authors and works for you to check out:
