Humpday Meanderings & DC Farm for Vets
Back to our normal configuration, the guys start the day discussing what makes Boston Cream Pie different from other cream pie. (It's Boston Cream Pie Day). It's also TV Talk Show Host Day, and the guys remember Phil Donahue, one of the first tv talk show hosts. Discussions change to Phil's wife Marlo Thomas, and her tv show "That Girl". Everyone agrees she was a cutie. Then Jake VandenPlas from DC Farm for Vets drops by to talk about some of the things going on at the Farm. He also talks about the Salute to Service Party with Houses of Honor.

Weekly Best of Maino and the Mayor for Sep 21
Our friend Jake VandenPlas from DC Farm For Vets visits us in the studio, to not only share fresh sweet corn with the guys, but also talk about the REAL work on the farm. Yes, they are growing vegetables, raising beef, pork and chicken…but its a much deeper plan than that. The work on the farm really focuses on fighting veteran suicide. Then Mike Campbell, Founder and President of Team ONE MILE calls in to talk about the organization and the work it does. Team ONE MILE cycled over 100 miles a day from community to community across the state of Wisconsin. They had a total of 21 riders with the goal of highlighting veterans and future youth leaders. They also raised money for the Gold Star children of Camp Hometown Heroes.

Friday Morning Meanderings for 9/13/24 (Hour 1)
TGIF! The conversation starts by talking about betting on sports. Jim and John come up with a plan to head to the casino on Thursdays to put their bets in. (They're actually putting it on their calendars so they don't forget). Then Maino goes back on his promise to donate a Blackstone Griddle for the New Community Shelter auction. A Quick Poll shows that our listeners feel he's wrong for doing that. Then we have guest Jake VandenPlas from DC Farm for Vets joins us on the phone. A great organization in Door County that works with veterans and others to teach farming and gardening techniques. But more than that, the camaraderie and connections that are built, person to person, make the biggest difference. A great group that does amazing work right here in Northeast Wisconsin.
