Political Rhetoric and Responsibility: Who’s to Blame?
Maggie and guest co-host Matt Rothschild dive into a critical debate: Do Democrats share any blame for the rise in political violence, or does it stem squarely from Donald Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric? As Trump continues to incite violence and demonize his opponents, Maggie and Mat examine the consequences of escalating political language. They also confront the media's tendency toward false balance and explore the concept of "stochastic terrorism"—violence inspired by indirect incitement. And political scientist Howard Schweber explains how Trump’s words strategically energize his base, warning of growing desperation and the potential for more violence. There is one clear message: peaceful protest, political engagement, and voting are our strongest tools against authoritarianism.

Habeas Corpus and the Tyrant’s Gambit
Maggie dives into the alarming rhetoric from Stephen Miller about suspending habeas corpus, a cornerstone of democracy that prevents unlawful detention. Joined by Matt Rothschild and Professor Howard Schweber, they unravel the implications of such a move, highlighting its tyrannical echoes and historical misuse. The conversation underscores the Trump administration's tactic of overwhelming the legal system with dubious actions, challenging the judiciary’s capacity to respond. They also also touch on Trump's potential emoluments violations, questioning if foreign gifts undermine presidential integrity.

Howard Schweber is a Professor of Political Science and Legal Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is an expert in constitutional law, judicial politics, free speech/religion/First Amendment, democratic theory and American politics.
Professor Schweber spends most of the hour breaking down the three Supreme Court Rulings: affirmative action, student loans and the website designer who refused to make a wedding website for a gay couple even though, apparently, the request itself was completely made up.
