It’s A Six Page Book For Kids… (Hour 1)
It's Friday, so the weekend starts here. Remember Foxconn? Remember how they said they were gonna create 13,000 jobs, but didn't, well Foxconn is still getting tax breaks and we want to know...what happens when they reach the cap of those tax breaks? Also, Greg gives an update on how his birthday went. Then, Hallie Schmeling is the Co-Lead for Grassroots Menomonee Falls and she joins us to discuss more attempts to ban books and the School Boards' lack of cooperation.

Hey, How Are You?
They're educated educators. They're amplified. That's right- we've got BustED Pencils and Educators Amplified, back in the saddle!
We are mere days away from the end of this electoral season. Here in beautifully purple, swing-state Wisconsin, tensions run high. Teacher Hallie and Teacher Joanna of Educators Amplified urge us to take care in these moments. As much stress as we feel, we know tools to regulate ourselves and help calm our loved ones. And remember folks- sometimes the best answer to that tension is to- as Michelle Obama instructs- DO SOMETHING!
For a one-stop shop to check your voter registration, find your polling location, and practice voting with a sample ballot, go to myvote.wi.gov. Make a plan to vote and fulfill your CIVIC duty!

[Doing it for] The Cause
Teacher Hallie of Educators Amplified joins us to catch up on trending educational news and debate the merits of Grow Your Own Teacher programs. Hallie appreciates that GYO programs can absolutely help bridge necessary teacher shortages... but it does nothing to prevent the further exodus.
We've got some trending news to tackle today. SCOTUS blocked Biden's loan repayment plan. An ever-increasing number of school districts are moving to ban or heavily regulate smartphones in class. Together, these topics bring us into a conversation about liberty, patriotism, and how public institutions can stay public and stay working in the best interests of growing humans.

Summer Days, Drifting Away…
Teacher Hallie and Teacher Joanna of Educators Amplified join Dr. Tim and Dr. Johnny for a Wednesday when we're ALL feeling amplified. President Biden has chosen nation over self and ended his re-election campaign, opting to pass the torch to the next generation, and sparking a groundswell of energy for the democratic process. Hallie and Joanna are preparing to teach this momentous period of history. But that's a concern for... oh goodness it's nearly the end of July! How did that happen??
Democracy in Action value: popular sovereignty, connected to Teacher Hallie reminding us to have hope in the people, who are the foundation of our government.

Ban Vending Machine Bullets, Not Books (Hour 1)
This should come as no surprise to anyone, but bullets are now available in vending machines. Yes, the same things you get your chips, your soda, even your headphones when you're at the airport, now you can get bullets and this is not a joke, at all. Then we welcome Hallie Schmeling from Grass Roots Menomonee Falls joins the show to talk about protecting our kids from the horrors of guns children's books, specifically books for preschoolers.

Emotions Are Complicated-Let’s Talk About Them!
Today we're jamming with Teacher Hallie and Teacher Joanna of Educators' Amplified, so you know it's gonna be great! Dr. Johnny and our guests dig deeper into conversations about the importance of finding, feeling, and being able to regulate our emotions. Specifically, we're looking at the neuroscience of those big negative feelings that tend to explode when we do not have appropriate tools to manage them.
Check out Johnny's interview with Washington State Standard on the ever-increasing presence of guns in schools: https://washingtonstatestandard.com/2024/05/26/more-weapons-and-guns-showing-up-in-washingtons-schools/

Mindfulness or Mindless Compliance?
Tim and Johnny are joined by teacher Hailee fresh out of a union meeting and fired up to talk fully leaded education. Are we teaching children mindfulness techniques in order to help them grow as people or as one more desperate effort for behavior management in the classroom? One helps us as a society, one only ingrains mindless obedience and disdain for strategies to increase mental wellness. Additionally, are we using "mindfulness" techniques as an unsatisfactory stopgap because of a legitimately broken education system?

A sad state of affairs
Tim Slekar is joined by Teacher Hallie to speak plainly about the state of classroom life for both teachers and learners - the game has changed, and it's time to take stock of our situation.
