Gray Gunderson
Tornadoes, Turmoil, and Tuition
A whirlwind packed with severe weather alerts as tornado warnings sweep across Wisconsin. Hail pounds Madison while Milwaukee's Zeidler Municipal Building faces a police incident. Maggie dives into the legal quagmire surrounding Judge Hannah Dugan's indictment, spotlighting her defense team's 10th Amendment arguments. Education takes center stage with Sara Partridge from the Center for American Progress Action Fund, who warns against a GOP bill threatening to slash Pell Grants, potentially sidelining millions from higher education. Meanwhile, Jeramey Jannane of "Urban Milwaukee" updates us on Milwaukee's protests and courtroom dramas.

Reign of Terror by Error
The hits keep on coming today. Maggie unravels the latest chaos in Trump's administration. There's more incompetence and corruption. Big surprise. Mike Waltz is ousted as National Security Advisor, only to be appointed UN Ambassador, leaving Marco Rubio wearing multiple hats ineffectively. Trump’s chaotic governance sees intelligence briefings dwindling and deportations deemed unconstitutional by a Texas judge. Gray Gunderson also joins Maggie this hour for "Your Neck of the Woods." Maggie and Gray discuss Congressional Republicans silence in the face of economic turmoil and Medicaid cuts, fearing voter backlash rather than Trump himself. Amidst this, ICE threatens to arrest Democratic mayors, and Stephen Miller pushes for indoctrination in schools. It's a circus without accountability.

Justice Lies and Vos’s Vendetta
Maggie delves into the chaotic realm of politics and policy, dissecting the latest legal battles over due process rights under the Alien Enemies Act. She and Gray Gunderson spend "Your Neck of the Woods" lambasting Justice Samuel Alito's dissent as partisan hackery, exposing the lies and flaws in his arguments. Meanwhile, despite overwhelming bipartisan support, Wisconsin's political landscape is ablaze with Robin Vos blocking Medicaid expansion for new moms, as Political Editor Dan Shafer explains during "State Slate". Plus, Jeramey Jannene from "Urban Milwaukee" joins Maggie this hour to discuss the use of drones by the Milwaukee police departments. The Due Process Dilemma
Maggie dives into the Trump administration's defiance of Supreme Court orders mandating due process for deportations under the Alien Enemies Act. Despite a unanimous 9-0 ruling requiring due process, the administration's actions suggest an alarming disregard for constitutional norms, sparking a late-night Supreme Court intervention. Maggie highlights the dangers of false dichotomies and zero-sum thinking in politics, emphasizing the need for securing borders while respecting individual rights. Tensions rise as listeners weigh in on immigration, due process, and the political gamesmanship obstructing bipartisan solutions.

Rugby, Comprehensive Plans, and the Fight for Wisconsin’s Land
Gray Gunderson joins Maggie for "Your Neck of the Woods. Maggie and Gray dive into the intricacies of comprehensive plans, highlighting the impact on zoning, land use, and community development. They emphasize the ongoing battle in Oneida County over extractive land use, where economic interests clash with environmental preservation. Maggie explains the concept of 'negative externalities', urging us to consider who truly benefits from zoning decisions. Dan Shafer, Political Editor, joins Maggie for "State Slate" offers insights into Wisconsin's political scene, focusing on potential gubernatorial candidates and the leadership race within the Democratic Party. From the Ring to Roads…
Gray Gunderson is back for "Your Neck of the Woods," and he brings Rich LoCascio from Civic Media's WRJN with him today. As it turns out, you can also catch Rich in a wrestling ring. You won't see him down on the mat, but you will hear his voice...as a professional ring announcer. Rich explains what the wrestling term "kayfabe" means. To save you a Google search: It's a form of story-telling where there's an agreement between professional wrestlers and their fans pretend that staged wrestling events, stories, characters, etc., are genuine. Plus, Jeramey Jannene from "Urban Milwaukee" joins Maggie for "Milwaukee As A Microcosm." Jeramey breaks some news from the Department of Transportation. Grants for upwards of $110 million in upgrades to roads, bikes lanes, and other improvements around the state are now under scrutiny by the Trump administration. What’s In a Name?
Gray Gunderson is back! Gray can be heard on WCQM in Park Falls, but on Wednesdays he joins Maggie to talk about what's going on in "Your Neck of the Woods." As we learned, in a Birkebeiner recap, the purple and gold bibs mean you're a Birkie OG. Maggie and Gray also discuss how summer activities at the beautiful Lake Superior Apostle Islands is being threatened by federal workforce cuts. How do you feel about overflowing toilets? Plus, Brian Lemek, Executive Director of Defend the Vote, joins Maggie to discuss how the SAVE Act could keep millions of people from voting because of a name change. Happen to know any married women? The requirements are so burdensome that a driver's license won't be enough. It would require a passport or a birth certificate, and 69 million women who have changed their name due to marriage don't have birth certificates to match their names. Check out more information from Defend the Vote at https://wedefendthevote.org/.

Civic Media Spotlight for February 22nd & 23rd (Hour 2)
Kicking off this hour, Maggie invites Gray Gunderson of Park Falls to talk about the Birkie on the Maggie Daun Show! They have a lot of great conversations, including a call from Jim in Brookfield about how much the event means and how little known it is here in WI despite drawing international visitors.
Then, Paul Vanden Plas with Wonderfully Wisconsin joins Maino & the Mayor. Paul uses social media platforms to share all the wonderful things Wisconsin has to offer. From local dive bars to state parks that folks may not know, Paul takes us there and shares the places, people, and history that make this state so awesome.
Next, sometimes, when a guest doesn't show up, you get a great conversation with the listeners on Matenaer On Air. In lieu of a Social Security advocate coming on the show to talk about the importance of protecting the nations most important "entitlements", we turned the mic to the audience and for three straight segments, we took call after call and listened to folks on or affected by social security, we read their texts and livestream comments. All of them express how vital that check is to their lives, and survival as well as what will happen if the current administration takes a machete to the money they've paid into, for so many years.
Last but not least, John and Gordy in the Morning welcomes back Mike McCabe to talk about the hardships, but also community from farm life, and how it can be a metaphor for what the country needs right now.
