SPEAKER_??

Chad Holmes (host)

And welcome back to At Home Show 98.9 WXCO WXCO.FM mobile devices and Alexa by searching WXCO and on the Civic Media app along with oh and also youtube youtube.com and the 98.9 WXCO channel along with Ian Welsh I am Chad Holmes again I don't think I even need to tell you folks it's cold outside and there's an extreme cold warning if you need me to tell you

I can't hold your hand all the time folks.

You gotta have gotta take care of yourself once in a while It's cold outside.

So be be very very careful.

I'm just kidding.

I will take care of you all just like Everybody else

Paul Micley (co-host)

my truck doesn't so old.

It doesn't even have like degrees.

It's actually just said

I'm not used to this.

I wasn't built for this cold.

Chad Holmes (host)

Let me say, why are you in your vehicle right now?

Why are you inside under the covers right now?

That is Paul Micley.

And time to talk some Wisconsin sports.

I want to start with the Brewer trade, because I may disagree with you here, because Freddie Peralta is traded to the Mets for a couple of prospects.

And another picture thrown in there as well.

Well, uh, twice.

Yeah.

And he's thrown up some, some skill at times.

I hate this trade.

I hate it.

I hate it.

It won't help the brewers this year.

I don't think I hate this trade.

Again, you think I hate it.

Yeah, I think, and I'm willing to say in October, when we come back, I'll be right on this one because I, I mean, yeah.

Okay.

Know if you're gonna get something that really excited me I could see it.

He is such a bargain He has been such a bargain and it's like we're not even we're not even gonna try To keep the keep our best players and that just bothers me Tell me why I'm wrong

Paul Micley (co-host)

There's somebody that agreed with you

And I'll tell you off air.

Oh,

Chad Holmes (host)

you're smiling.

Oh, you're smiling, you're

Paul Micley (co-host)

smiling.

And there was a lot of comments of, you know, of, come on, Chad, you know better, you know what market we are in, you know what,

They got a third and fifth round, or a third and fifth, five prospects for the Mets.

And that is what they did with Barnes.

That's what they did with, this is, the guy has done, they have, Burns, Burns, my bad.

Burns.

Burns.

Well, he's gone, so I don't really care anymore.

But he, they have done these trades for years.

These guys have done this they've built this organization and they've somehow

Chad Holmes (host)

won with this like this.

Do I have to be happy about it though?

Why don't you say I was happy about it?

Well, that's what I'm saying.

I'm not happy.

You're saying it was bad and I and I'm willing to I'm I've read about these guys.

Maybe maybe maybe maybe I mean Peralta to go out there and you know, great Tara's Tara's remember the let's bring back the burns trade.

I mean

Well, it wasn't because of that trade that they they kept winning.

Now those guys didn't have it coming in.

They weren't the difference in this team being a winning team.

But all those stuff that they put together.

Well, name one guy who's been really a major cog in that team from that trade.

But it's not, but that's not how they're built.

That's not how they're built though.

I know that, but I mean, you're, but you're making it sound like, well, this trade's going to keep them winning, not necessarily.

Proton was a great, great pitcher.

Don't get me wrong.

He's a, he's a good.

How

Paul Micley (co-host)

many times did you

Chad Holmes (host)

get to the sixth inning?

How many times

Paul Micley (co-host)

did you get to the sixth inning?

How many times?

Chad Holmes (host)

I don't know.

Not many.

You're talking about a five inning guide, Chad.

Seventeen game winner, fifth in the Psy Young Award.

That's what they do these days.

Oh, okay.

That's what they do.

Just like the Brewers.

This is what they do.

Okay, whatever.

I mean, but, but, no, we're just, we're, we're in the pager.

No, but I mean, this is, this is, this is different between you and me.

You root for laundry.

I don't root for laundry.

The guys who are in the... Oh, I would say that.

Yes, you do.

Yes, you do.

Terrell Buckley.

You tell me, Terrell Buckley, that I have always been... You've always rooted for the guys in the laundry.

Terrell Buckley?

Yes.

He's your guy.

That's not laundry.

That's a human being.

You're going back to the 1990s.

Paul Molliser, Robin Yellen.

You want me to talk to all these guys?

I'm going to the 1970s.

Well, in

Paul Micley (co-host)

the 80s and 90s.

No, I never cheered for people.

And I'm not saying Freddie's not, but the thing is this is a business.

Chad Holmes (host)

Yes, it is a business.

And it's a business where Mark Antonio, whether or not you, yes, they've won some games.

He's still cheap.

Well,

Paul Micley (co-host)

he's a billionaire and he's still cheap.

That's not what you're saying to me though.

You're saying it was a bad trade.

Chad Holmes (host)

I do think it's a bad trade in addition to everything else.

Okay, and I'm saying is it wasn't a bad trade.

What about these two guys that excited you?

These nameless minor leaguers who are coming.

Paul Micley (co-host)

Nameless minor leaguers?

There are three and five prospects.

I mean, people are gonna say, well, he's five, seven.

The guy hit 17 home runs in triple A last year.

He has a little pop to his bat, and you put him into Miller Park, not Miller Park, American Park, that he probably can hit probably 20 home runs when it's all said and done, and I'll tell you this right now, Chris Hook

Chad Holmes (host)

is the best pitching coach ever.

I will bet you a pizza that that guy doesn't come close to 20 home runs in the next five years.

In the next five years.

You might go home with pizza then.

He will not hit 20 home runs in any season in the next five years.

Mark it.

Are you in?

Okay, good.

I'll remember this too.

I'm hoping I'm alive.

So that's a better chance to meet me

Paul Micley (co-host)

than meet me alive.

Um, and in the picture, he's, he's, these two guys are ready to kind of go.

Well, we'll see.

I can't believe you're just, you're just saying that, that the third to fifth prospect are nothing.

They're nothing

Chad Holmes (host)

nada.

The analysis I read, yeah, they mean whatever your numbers.

I don't know what you're getting your numbers.

These guys are not sure things Well, nobody's a sure thing

Well, if you're going to trade a number one starter, you better get something better than a bag of beans.

Who's the guy who bought a bag of beans here?

Who is the guy that excited?

Me.

Well, if he has Peralta, it goes five.

He would go seven if I was his manager.

We'll be right back.

Yeah, yeah.

We'll be right back.

Chad Holmes

I'm sure my dad has a lot to say about that.

That's Ian Welsh.

I am Chad Holmes.

Again, we are with you until the end of this hour here on 98.9 WXEO.

And then you can join us on the Sports2Stream of wxio.fm and the Civic Media app and continue with us on

youtube.com and the 98.9 wxio channel if there's something on your mind we again we've said this and one of the things we want to do here is to get your voice on don't be shy be if there's something on your mind whether it's in the news whether it's on the

Unidentified announcer

weather

Chad Holmes

whatever it's out there you can let us know at 715-814-933-0 that's 715-814-933-0 want to quickly let people know that Monday

We will have another gubernatorial candidate, Francesca Hong, who is running as a Democrat for the governorship of Wisconsin.

She'll be joining us on Monday morning.

Then on Tuesday morning, we'll be joined by Yi Leng Zhang, who is a candidate for the state treasurer office, and of course, a very important figure here in Central Wisconsin.

Ian Welsh

And then

Chad Holmes

on Wednesday morning, again at 8.06, we're very excited to welcome back to the program for the first time in a...

Almost two years, actually.

Yeah, Katie Rosenberg, the former Mayor of Wausau, who is now running for the Marathon County Board, and she'll be with us, I think, for much of the first hour of the show on Wednesday.

It's a good chance to really delve into some of the things that have happened and also look ahead in terms of some of the issues that animate her campaign for the board.

So that's on Wednesday, will be Katie Rosenberg.

So again, Fran Hong on Monday.

Yi Leng Zhang on Tuesday and Katie Rosenberg on Wednesday.

Some terrific guests coming up early next week here on the program.

Ian Welsh

A very busy start to next week.

Chad Holmes

Yep.

That's what we like, right?

That's what we like.

Absolutely.

Keeps us on our toes.

There you go.

Um, have

Ian Welsh

you heard yet?

No, I do have a possible theory about this is that they're, uh, they are still in the final process of making like the

the final decisions, the main cast of characters and they're just trying to make sure that they made the right decision and hopefully they'll post something about this weekend.

Chad Holmes

And by the way, real quickly, for people that may have just jumped into the middle of our story here earlier, was it this week, or actually it was last

Ian Welsh

week that audition, right?

It was last.

Thursday.

Chad Holmes

Yeah, so Ian auditioned for the Wasa Community Theater production of the 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Yeah, that's right, which will be performed coming up at the Venega Theater in late March.

And we're waiting to see whether or not he adds to his total of productions.

and he's up into the 70s and he's trying to, the goal is to get to 100 by the time he turns 40, which is about, well, how many years is that?

Like nine years?

You're like 30, 31, what are you?

Ian Welsh

Well, depending on the amount of shows I do every year, I mean, I, I did make a promise to my family.

I wasn't going to overdo it on theater.

So probably

Unidentified announcer

I

Ian Welsh

do like two to three shows a year.

So probably maybe,

seven to nine years, probably?

Chad Holmes

All right, so, Barry, let's hope

Ian Welsh

that you can add one.

I have plenty of time to do this.

I just want to be sure that I

Chad Holmes

have.

Is this a show that you really like?

Is this one that you really want?

Ian Welsh

When I first heard about it, I actually didn't know anything about it, and then I did my research, I listened to the music, I was looking up the characters, and I'm like, well, this is a really funny show, and it's...

different and I think it'd be a fun challenge.

So I did my research, I was practicing my song I was gonna sing and I was checking over the characters and the plot had to make sure I understood the show and when the audition came around, I really had a lot of fun with it.

All

Chad Holmes

right, well, very good.

So

Ian Welsh

that's the main thing though, because sometimes auditions can be very scary and it can be a lot of pressure, but.

You know, you just try to have fun with it and do your best and just be there to support each other and not, you know, try to turn it into like an American Idol competition.

Auditions can actually be a lot of fun.

Chad Holmes

Very good.

Before we wrap up the hour, just a reminder, again, it's very cold outside, in fact, but apparently we've warmed up.

It's now, according to my phone, it's 22 below zero with a wind chill of 33 below, so we're going in the right direction.

But again, there is an extreme cold warning in effect for 24 more hours until 9 a.m.

tomorrow morning.

That's

Unidentified announcer

right.

Chad Holmes

Make sure you are very careful if you are able to try to avoid any significant travel here in the next day or so.

Also just...

I mean, it's going to stay pretty cold through the next week.

We were talking about it.

I mean, today, 11 below zero is the high.

So that's going to be the worst of it.

But tomorrow, a high of two below.

Tonight, low of 26 below.

And then even after that, Sunday, high of six above.

And then Monday, a high of five above.

Tuesday, high of eight above.

Wednesday, high of seven above.

And then maybe next Thursday, we'll get back to double digits.

They're calling for a temperature of 10 above zero.

So.

It's going to stay cold for the next number of days.

Ian Welsh

The next couple of days are going to be the worst.

Yes.

Worst days in the negatives, but it will get better.

You don't feel balmy.

Chad Holmes

You'll feel

Ian Welsh

balmy by the time it gets to 10 above zero.

Yeah.

Wisconsin in the wintertime at 20 degrees is a heat wave.

There

Chad Holmes

you go.

Hey, we are done for this hour.

But if you want more, join us over on 98.9 WXCO's YouTube channel, youtube.com, wxco.com and the Civic Media app.

Click on the sports to stream and we'll be back at 906 for the final hour of the week.

You want to hear how Ian does with the number for the day, right?

So the only way to do that is to head online.

We

Unidentified announcer

hope to

Chad Holmes

see you there.
