I should have taken like, uh, Pat Crichtlow did and make it a extra long weekend because he, uh, a four day weekend.

Exactly.

Cause I, it was late when I got home.

I did not get much sleep.

We, uh, how was

Ian (Producer)

the game last night?

Host

It was, it was, uh, started well.

Was it okay game?

It was a, it was a, it was a good game.

It was a hard fought game.

It was a disappointing result for Wasta West as the Warriors fell to the Hudson Raiders by a score of 30 to 14.

But then, then had to come home.

I got home about one 30 in the morning.

It was like, oh, so late to then.

And then of course, you know, you, you, you get home, you go right to bed and then you can't fall asleep for some reason.

And it took a while for me to fall asleep and then.

Then the alarm goes off and I, I stay in bed a few minutes, maybe more than a few minutes.

I'm thinking, how long can I just wait here until I.

Until I have to get up and go to go to work and I literally waited till last moment as you saw I walked in right at the very last moment Do I come in here and join you here this morning?

Hey coming up at 722 in our next segment We will be talking to Paul McLeod about Wisconsin sports as we head into this weekend, but the

The big news yesterday was the Packers made a blockbuster trade and don't use that term very often a blockbuster trade One of the best players in the NFL Micah Parsons He had been having some contract issues with the Dallas Cowboys and in the end the Packers made a deal with Dallas yesterday and

will be bringing in Micah Parsons, signing him to a massive contract with the most amount of guaranteed money for a non-quarterback in NFL history.

But the Packers sent out a couple of number one draft picks and also Kenny Clark, longtime Packard offensive linemen.

He's heading to Dallas.

So we will talk about that.

The Wisconsin Badger football team opened up their season last night and late in the evening at Camp Randall Stadium.

And we'll talk about that.

Brewers continuing in first place as well.

So lots to talk about with Paul McLeague.

He'll be with us in the 722 and the 752 segments here this morning.

Yeah, three out of four this week on the number for the day.

Ian (Producer)

I'm doing pretty good.

Host

Yeah, three weeks in a row with at least three rights, I believe if that's not mistaken.

Yeah, feels good.

But you haven't got to four.

So we're gonna try to get to four in a while.

Yeah, so that's a big one coming up at about 830 this

morning yep we have a top of the hour information update and then more of Pat don't forget send in that keyword strike the uh free ticket Friday your chance to win tickets to see the Brewers right here on 98.9 WXDO

Friday morning, 29th of August, 2025.

Chili Start here in North Central Wisconsin.

But it's a crisp, beautiful start.

Football start.

You feel football out there this morning.

And a man that knows his football is Paul Miklick, the head football coach at New Macathic High School.

Talks on Wisconsin Sports.

Good to see you this morning.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

Oh, good to see you.

And yeah, that chill is, in the fall, it's nice.

It is.

You know, I

Host

mean,

It

Paul Miklick (Guest)

was

Host

actually real fast.

It was the first time in a long time that I got home very late last night and I'm going to bed.

I brought the blanket out.

I brought the blanket.

I've been just a sheet guy for the last number of weeks.

Oh, the blanket.

It was cool enough that I thought, I gotta get the blanket out.

So I got the blanket out last night and it's truly football time.

So that's, let's jump right in because you gotta talk about, it's not about the Badgers last night.

It's not about the Brewers.

Taking the headlines where the Green Bay Packers yesterday and Micah Parsons coming to Green Bay the biggest non-quarterbacked contract in history Two first-round picks and Kenny Clark going to Dallas.

I was looking at some of the draft grades and the athletic I have not seen this in a long time the athletic grades all these trades

A plus, plus, plus for the Packers.

Do you agree?

Do you think this is the, a lot of people are saying the, oh boy.

A lot of people.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

A lot of people.

A lot of

Host

people.

But I guess I'll ask you, what's your take on this trade?

Paul Miklick (Guest)

I mean, I think it shows that they're,

Going for it, right?

Are you going to

Host

use the term that everyone else is?

All

Paul Miklick (Guest)

in.

Going for it, I'll say.

You

Host

at least use your vocabulary nicely there.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

I like that.

I think it also says maybe what kind of, where they think their weakness is because they had, can any clerks, you know, people like,

People are you know, we have an early drinking.

Yes.

Yes, correct 722.

Kenny Clark is he was a big piece.

I mean he's a three-time pro bowler.

He played her all last year and This is going to be a loss.

So they obviously are

confident that they have guys that can play at that position.

And it says they were not confident because they have two first rounders out there anyways, Vanessa and Gary.

Rashon, yeah, Gary.

And so they have two first rounders out there already is telling me that they don't think that's good enough.

Well, which again, anytime you can get the one of the best players in the NFL, I don't care what team you are.

I think you ought to do it.

And they did it.

And they're going to spin it.

Cowboys are spinning it the other way.

And there was somebody I read that said that the Cowboys, that was a great trade

Host

for them.

Well, the thing that they're spinning right now is that he's not a good locker room guy.

He's not the kind of guy.

That is he's been moping during the preseason.

He was caught on the, uh, on the bench, you know, not as a Jersey as the other week

Paul Miklick (Guest)

later on,

Host

talking about, you know, these phantom injuries, you know, but at the same time, we've seen this many times in these situations where there's an unhappy contract, an unhappy guy, and then he goes to a new team.

At least there's a honeymoon period.

And I'm hoping the Packers are probably looking for at least a four or five month honeymoon period because if they win the Super Bowl this year,

It doesn't matter what happens if he's what the main reason a main reason that they win it that

The investment would be worthwhile.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

Yeah, and that's it.

I mean they're trying to spin it I thought from a football standpoint is that they can't stop the run and Parsons can't stop the run which is a little concerning for the Packers because the first game is going to be run run run run So they're trying to sell it from that so they they're thinking they got better against the run That's what they're saying.

That's what they're saying and then and they pick up to first round draft picks which they can go around and trade and get somebody else So they they they're saying that they're gonna be able to get better.

Hey

I'm not saying they can't.

I'm not saying that can't be both winners.

And right now, the Packers have to be confident in their two guys in the middle to make that trade.

And anytime, again, only two guys.

in the history, in their first four years, have 12 sex.

How

Host

do you think the Packers are now in the middle?

Let's not even talk about the ends, about the middle, because losing Kenny Clark is a massive loss in terms of what he's done for the past decade.

How do you feel, do the Packers, do you still think the Packers are strong enough in the interior of the line?

They have to be.

I

Paul Miklick (Guest)

mean, that's why they kept, I think, on their cut down the other day.

This trade was probably in effect for a little while here.

And so they have a little more depth, I want to say.

We don't know if it's going to be as good, it's not going to be as good as Kenny Clark, obviously.

But they're going to be fine in there, and they're confident in there.

I think they're confident in their linebackers, so they had the whole package.

They wanted to get an edge.

guy that can beat a double team.

Any time that he's single, he's gonna win that one every time.

Those other two guys were not doing that at this point in time, and they needed to make that jump and to put some pressure on the quarterback to make those turnovers happen.

They're gonna win, football's a game about turnovers, and if you can get turnovers and get them into third and longs, you're gonna win games.

Host

And help your DBs.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

That's what I mean.

Host

Exactly.

I mean, that's exactly the thing.

And I do think there's still

the new kind of new look because the Packers were playing without Alexander a lot.

But I still think overall when you talk about top and talent, for his lack of availability, he was still that top level talent.

Talent wise, they're not as good.

Bottom line, I think in this help that may this makes those guys a lot more talented this by having this kind of guy It also is five years younger than Kenny Clark.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

I

Host

mean, that's another factor I think in this trade as well

Paul Miklick (Guest)

Yeah, and Kenny Clark's got a lot of wear and tear, you know So last year he really had to fight he had a fight through it and he did fight through it and he did a terrific job with that

five years younger is makes a huge difference.

And they're going to be able to put some pressure on the quarterback.

And their quarterbacks that they face coming out is not easy.

Host

Does this make the Packers the favorite of the NFC?

Paul Miklick (Guest)

Let's get him to land in Green Bay first before we start.

I will say this is that day.

Host

That's a big game next week.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

It's a big game, but they're all big in the NFL.

Really?

Host

I know.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

Well, you only got 17 of them, so you got to win.

Host

You got

Paul Miklick (Guest)

to win.

But

Host

the home games and division against the rival for the championship.

I call that big.

Paul Miklick (Guest)

Big.

Do you pick them as favorites then?

Host

We'll talk about that

Paul Miklick (Guest)

in about 20 minutes.

We'll be

Host

right back with a little bit later at 752.

More with Pat Crite.

We'll next on 98.9 WXEO.

Pat Cracow (host)

U-X-O morning report, part of 40s with Pat Cracow on 98.9 to be U-X-O.

47 degrees under partly sunny skies here on this Friday morning, heading into the long Labor Day, holiday weekend.

We'll tell you more about Labor Day and the big parade coming up on Monday.

You gonna be at the parade?

A new, uh, new, um... New route.

New route.

I know.

A little shorter.

We'll see.

I mean, whenever you do something new, it's always interesting to see how it works.

I actually drove past yesterday and I saw my, the reviewing stand where I always hang out is still, it's right where it's all he is.

That is, that is the same.

But it's like, cause I can usually be able to see people come down the road.

I'm not sure if that's going to be the same way or not.

We'll see.

They'll be coming, they'll be coming

Paul (guest)

down as you see them.

Pat Cracow (host)

Paul, make like talking Wisconsin sports and I did not get a chance to see the Badgers last night.

17 nothing over Miami of Ohio You gotta say the Badgers get no luck with these transfer quarterbacks that come in I mean it was van Dyke first getting knocked away now Last night even the year before it was

Paul (guest)

Mori.

Pat Cracow (host)

Oh, yeah.

Yeah, the guy from SMU.

Yeah more Mordecai.

Yeah last night an injury.

I don't know what the

Paul (guest)

ultimate

Pat Cracow (host)

He said

Paul (guest)

it I mean if Flex said it at the end of the game and just watching him

he came out there the whole second half and he was, you know, jumping around and

Pat Cracow (host)

into the game.

And

Paul (guest)

I shouldn't say jumping around, but

Pat Cracow (host)

he was,

Paul (guest)

he was definitely moving.

Um, and there was no, you know, there's

Pat Cracow (host)

nothing.

What was the entry?

The

Paul (guest)

scary thing is it was, it was, it looked like his knee.

Um, and it was no contact.

So that's, that was the, he was just doing a roll out and he, he, he fell down then.

Um, so that's the scary thing about it.

Uh, the good thing was he jogged.

to the locker room after he went into the tent.

And then Flex said, he goes, hey, he's out.

They asked him.

And they said, what do you think?

And he said, well, I guess we don't know anything, but the good sign is that he was out here.

So I would agree with that.

And then he knew.

Don't tell me he didn't know what was going on there.

He knew.

So I think he would have said something if it was not good.

Pat Cracow (host)

Well, 17-nothing.

shutout that's always a wonderful way to start that badger defense which has been such a foundation for this team for a number of years what do you think defensively to start it off to get the shutout

Paul (guest)

you know I was watching the post game show and in Minnesota struggled with Buffalo and Wisconsin struggled with Miami and

I didn't know that the MAC is the best conference in the nation.

Pat Cracow (host)

If

Paul (guest)

you talk to those two coaches.

Pat Cracow (host)

Well, you would know that if you tuned in to Sully's college football page.

Well, I'm going to.

Because he loves the MAC.

He loves the MAC.

Paul (guest)

It's actually one of the

Pat Cracow (host)

Power Five conferences.

Because according to those two coaches.

Well, the MAC and then the WIC, those are the top two conferences in America.

In America.

WIC is wonderful.

I'm not making fun of it.

Actually,

Paul (guest)

that conference is really

Pat Cracow (host)

good.

It is,

Paul (guest)

absolutely.

Really good.

You got to kind of look at the game and you're a little concerned that they couldn't run.

And I understand they stacked the box.

Great, they stacked the box.

In the days when they made Halo,

Pat Cracow (host)

it didn't matter.

It didn't matter.

You would just win those battles and the meat house has sully cause.

Yes, yes,

Paul (guest)

they would win the meat house.

And I don't think they won the meat house last night.

I did think that there was a little difference to the offense, which in a good way.

I thought there was some stuff there.

It just didn't work sometimes, or they didn't execute it correctly, which again, if we're not there, we don't know about the execution.

But I thought, honestly, I did, after watching the whole game, I thought they had a different little flow that the offense has the potential to be good.

And if you got a good defense, it's going to be good.

But you have to be a little concerned that

Pat Cracow (host)

that was a game.

You wanted to, I think it was like last year, you wanted these first couple of games to come out here and be the bully, because you're the Big Ten, you're the Badgers.

And again, it's like, ugh, it was a little too hard.

It kind of reminded us of, I think, a little bit last year, just judging by the flow of the game.

It's three-nothing to know what, late into the third quarter.

And they had a couple

Paul (guest)

opportunities where they were moving the ball.

I will say this.

with the day of turnover is, I mean, they had a receiver from Notre Dame that was played last year.

I'm not saying he played a lot in the national championship game, but he played.

They did have some good transfers come in offensively.

I'm sure you learned that in Sully's.

They had an offense.

They did have some guys.

So to hold them to zero is a good

Pat Cracow (host)

sign.

Absolutely.

Quickly we only have a couple minutes left the Brewers split for against Arizona this week won the first two lost the last two But then Cubs don't take advantage.

So still six and a half game lead your take on the week for the Brewers

Paul (guest)

That was

You talk about grinders and you're talking about, you're seeing things that remind you of the past, of May, of April, of when they were playing 500 baseball.

And that's starting to creep up a little bit.

They got a great showing on Tuesday night from a guy that they picked up, what, Fetty?

I mean.

Pat Cracow (host)

Where are these guys coming from?

Paul (guest)

I mean, the Braves caught them.

Dude,

Pat Cracow (host)

that store comes another guy.

Paul (guest)

They have confidence in their pitching staff, coaching staff.

And they

Pat Cracow (host)

come on, and they do okay.

If you rush into the fifth, that wasn't

Paul (guest)

bad.

I feel, and then they had Easton McGee, I think his name is.

If you'd have told me that they would have pitched six innings, those two guys in a game, and only given up two runs, that was a game that, you know, you gotta win.

You gotta win those games.

And right now it looks like that pitching staff is getting a little, if that doesn't look, they are, they're getting beat up a little bit.

This

Pat Cracow (host)

next six games is tough.

Yeah, especially this weekend on the road against Toronto team, that's what, 78 and 56.

I mean, this is a big challenge.

Again, thank you, San Francisco Giants.

And again, I'm looking at the big picture.

Paul (guest)

This next two games, we can't...

It's starting to feel like they might blow this lead.

Pat Cracow (host)

You're always that way though.

Yeah, but listen to me here.

Toronto and Philadelphia is for a home field advantage.

They had the 13 game winning streak that night.

They came back and you're talking.

They lose this game.

The wheels are coming off.

Are you telling me the wheels aren't?

Are they shaking a little bit?

Well, but you always seem to see those wheels shaking very quickly.

Before it happens.

Yes, you are.

You're looking in the future.

Do you think what about these next six games if they go up one in five?

Yeah, they're not gonna have home field advantage Yeah, that is vital.

That is vital.

So you just gotta go for it Yeah, you gotta win every day.

You gotta win every day at a time right hit a time always an overlook ahead Paul Good to see you.

Great to see

Paul (guest)

you get some sleep.

Maybe this afternoon

Pat Cracow (host)

before you come out.

We'll see you next week Coming up top of the hour news here on 98.9 WXCO
