It's Wayne Mauser, local news.

Good morning.

I'm Wayne Mauser for Civic Media News.

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night when his bike was size wiped by a combine and out of Gamey County's town of Center.

Deputies responded to the crash at County Highway A and Krieger Road about 6.20 p.m.

The motorcyclist, a 26-year-old man from Center, died before he could be transported to a hospital.

The Out of Game County Sheriff's Office says, according to its preliminary investigation, the Combine Harvester tractor was coming out of a driveway and sideswiped the motorcycle on Highway A. When it was hit by the Combine, the bike went into the oncoming lane and was struck head-on by an SUV.

The driver of the SUV

a 49-year-old Shioctan man was treated at the scene for minor injuries, the combine operator was not hurt.

Names of the drivers were not disclosed, which is routine to allow time for notifying families.

Highway A was closed for about five hours for the investigation.

No criminal charges will be filed and a deadly officer involved shooting in Chono County, this according to the Chono County District Attorney.

The shooting happened in March.

Newly released body camera video shows the moments

deputies tried to get a man out of an apartment the night of the shooting.

Deputies were called to the town of Green Valley on March 10th after a property owner reported smashed windows and damage inside an apartment.

The property owner told dispatch he had let a man named Jonathan Lupe stay there after learning Lupe had been sleeping in his truck.

Investigators say Lupe had barricaded himself in a bathroom.

Body camera video from Deputy Cole Vandehi shows officers trying to get Lupe to come out.

investigators said Lupe refused to come out and told deputies he had a gun.

Investigators said officers tried less lethal force, but it did not work.

Authorities said Lupe then moved toward deputies with what they believed was a firearm.

The object was later identified as a pellet gun.

Bandai then opened fire, hitting Lupe.

Lupe later died at a hospital.

Bandai was put on administrative leave for the agency's policies following the incident.

After reviewing the investigation, Shono County District Attorney

Gregory Parker determined there was no basis for criminal charges against the officers involved.

Oshkosh and the town of Algoma may merge their fire departments as municipal budgets continue to tighten.

A new report shows a merger would be feasible over the course of several years, taking gradual steps to merge services.

The town of Algoma already contracts with Oshkosh for its EMS services.

Inflation has outpaced municipalities' ability to raise taxes to fund city services, leaving several options, run a budget deficit, cut services, or find ways to consolidate.

A joint department could benefit from more stable tax funding and a state taxpayer grant.

This would also alleviate Algoma's need to recruit volunteers.

Right now, the department has enough bodies, but the lead consultant for the report said he sees recruiting volunteer firefighters as an increasing challenge.

Officials emphasize this is about funding, not service in any way.

They hope to find a way for both to still have full service to residents while each maintains some control over the department.

now begin on whether to begin to merge service over the course of several years, both sides say there is no chance Oshkosh will annex the town of Algoma.

It appears a plea deal has been reached in Audigime County Court with the father of a teen who was hospitalized, weighing just 35 pounds.

Walter Goodman, who's 48, faces five charges, three counts of chronic neglect of a child, consequence is grave bodily harm, and two counts of chronic neglect of a child, consequence is emotional damage.

The focus of recent hearings has been Goodman's competency, his ability to understand the proceedings and assist in his own defense.

However, a November 3rd hearing to address that issue is

now listed as a plea hearing, according to court records, details of the possible plea were not available.

Three other adults were also convicted in the case.

One of the suspects in a multi-county male theft and financial fraud scheme was sentenced Thursday in Out of Gamy County Court to another three years in prison.

32-year-old Darrell Edwards pleaded no contest.

To four counts of theft of movable property, eight other counts were dismissed.

It was also placed on extended supervision for four years by Out of Gamy

County Judge Whitney Haley.

Before the sentence was issued, Edwards apologized to the victims.

Edwards was previously sentenced to two years in prison in Brown County.

Co-Defendant, Dayanta Bratcher was sentenced to 18 months in prison in Winnebago County, two years in prison from Brown County and six months in jail in Manitowoc County.

Edwards and Bratcher stole more than $600,000 from area businesses by stealing mail, then manipulating the checks and banking information to

from those accounts.

While we're still enjoying fall, Ripon Police Chief Bill Walner says it's a good time to make arrangements for winter parking restrictions.

Bob Nelson reports for Civic Media News.

Walner says apartment dwellers may need to make arrangements for off street parking depending on which city you live in and their winter parking ordinance.

This is the time when people really need to start thinking about winter parking restrictions, making arrangements if you don't have a place to park.

We particularly see issues sometimes with

you know apartment rentals or rentals throughout the community where parking may be restricted.

Winter parking restrictions for some cities including Beaver Dam and Markizan start November 1st.

Winter parking restrictions begin November 15th for Ripon, Green Lake, Wattoma, Bondalac and North Bondalac.

Restrictions begin in Berlin on November 30th and in Wupon, Horkon and Mayville on December 1st.

Some cities do have permits that allow some parking

on streets during the winter.

The state's Department of Natural Resources reminds all spears interested in harvesting a lake sturgeon from Lake Winnebago during the 2027 surge and spearing season to purchase their license before October 31st.

All license holders must be a minimum of 12 years old.

There are an unlimited number of licenses available for Lake Winnebago and both residents and non-residents can purchase a license through the Go Wild

online system or at any licensed sales location.

There are a few exceptions to those who can purchase their license after the October 31st deadline.

Those exceptions include military personnel home on leave during the sparing season and youth who will turn 12 between November 1st and the last day of the 2027 sparing season.

For Civic Media News, I'm Maddie Schaefer in for Connie Feldman.

Madison is earning global recognition after being named one of National Geographic's top 25 must-visit destinations for 2027.

The publication highlighted Wisconsin's capital city for its scenic lakes, vibrant parks and thriving local food and dining scene.

Tourism officials say the honor comes after years of building relationships with travel writers to showcase everything Dane County has to offer.

Business owners and community leaders are celebrating the global spotlight, calling it a huge

point of pride for the area's hospitality and culture.

The Madison Common Council has voted to terminate interim independent police monitor Arameek Glass effective immediately.

The move comes following weeks of controversy over her job performance outlined in an employment review from the city attorney's office.

That review states Glass had made no meaningful progress in searching for a permanent monitor after nearly 10 months with no approved job description, posting or interviews.

It also cited a missed July 17

budget deadline, strained relationships with Madison police, and an open outside investigation into complaints about Glass's own conduct.

As we get closer to the November 3rd election, the Wisconsin Department of Motor Vehicles is reminding voters to make sure they have the proper photo ID before heading to the polls.

Acceptable forms of identification include a Wisconsin driver's license or state ID card.

A federally compliant real ID is not required to vote.

Other forms of identification

including certain military and student IDs may also be accepted.

For those who need an ID to vote, the DMV offers state ID cards free of charge.

And if the card isn't ready in time for election day, eligible voters can receive a temporary receipt that can be used at the polls.

And that's your state news update.

Mike Clemens

The World Series is underway.

Hi, I'm Mike Clemens with sports from Ampham Field, where it's the Brewers and the Rays in game one.

This will be the second time for the Brewers playing in a World Series, the third time for Tampa Bay, but neither team has yet to win the best of seven championship.

Manager Pat Murphy on what the Brewers did this week to prepare for tonight.

We played baseball.

That's how we prepared.

We went out there and played baseball every day and live at bats.

you can't recreate real.

You know what I mean?

It's a long way off and if we want to use it as an excuse, then let people use it as excuse.

But nothing simulates the game the way it is.

Mike Clemens

Brewer's owner, Mark Antonasio.

It's just sinking in on what a historic step this is now.

When I talked to Pat Murphy the other day, he said probably 10 years from now we'll be looking back on this and thinking about it.

It's all happening so fast.
