We have a Susie Mink from the Rip and Public Library with us.
She is the adult and teen services librarian.
Good morning.
Good morning, Bob.
Are you all ready for Halloween?
I was telling you that some of my neighbors are already getting to jump on Christmas.
Yeah, I see that in my neighborhood too.
I have a friend that lives at Stanton Apartments and one balcony there has this huge spider.
lit up spider that just like overflows off of the balcony.
And I thought, wow, that's a little much.
Okay.
You know, everybody has their own likes and dislikes.
So I tend to decorate for fall and not so much just for Halloween.
Um, there is someone that lives on Watson Street.
And I'm not sure if it's like some kind of a shrine or, uh, one of those community book things.
But every time I go by that address, I'm thinking somebody is walking on the sidewalk because it's so close to the sidewalk.
You just kind of see it out of the corner of your eyes.
So anyway.
All right.
So you're here to talk about November programming.
We're not that far away.
No, we are not.
Which is kind of scary because it feels like fall just started.
And here we are talking about November already.
But we are super excited that the majority of our programming in November is going to be back at the library.
We're making progress in that lower level and hope to have it open soon.
One of the biggest things that's coming up early in November is our Friends of the Library book sale.
So the book sale is going to run Thursday, November 5th, Friday, November 6th, and Saturday, November 7th.
So the Thursday
slot is from four to seven.
It's what we call the early bird sales.
So if you are a Friends of the Library member, or if you're willing to pay an extra fee, then you get in early to the book sale on Thursday evening from four to seven.
And then Friday it will run from ten to five.
That's just the regular book sale.
And then Saturday is our $3 bag sale.
That'll go from 10 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon.
And that's where you can fill a bag with as many books as you can get in a bag and then it's $3 a bag.
We just really push the book sale.
That is the funding for us for all of the programming that we do at the library.
The friends are very generous benefactors for the library.
They're a separate organization from the library.
They have their own 5013C.
set up and everything.
So they are not a part of the library.
They're separate from the library, but they generously donate all the funding that we need to run our programs every year.
So that is our complete programming budget comes from the friends.
We don't have a city line budget for program.
That all comes from the front, so we are super supportive and very grateful to everything they do.
They've been very patient with all the construction we've been going through, and they will be ready to accept book donations again after.
the book sale is over.
They need to clean out some spaces before they're ready to take some new things.
Plus the basement just hasn't been available for them to work in as much either because of the construction.
So we're really excited for them that this was able to work out that they could have their book sale this fall.
I know it's not when we normally do it, but we'll get back on track now after this book sale in early November, but that is coming up pretty soon.
So just wanted to give them a big shout out.
Okay, what else do you have?
So, um, we're getting back into our routine.
So we have a couple of game days coming up again, our TTRPG, which is tabletop role-playing game day tabletop role-playing game or TTRPG.
Um,
is going again.
So they are meeting the second Sunday of the month, which would be November 8th.
And they meet from one to four, which is the hours that were open on Sunday.
And that's for teens on up.
They do some D&D, but they do other role playing games.
And we have several people who come in and help out with that so that if you're new to that kind of game playing, there's someone there to do some teaching and training.
But it's a good time to get together as groups and play games.
Dungeons and Dragons is probably one of the most popular, but it's not the only one out there.
Dungeons and Dragons gets a little complicated.
So if you want something a little simpler, they can help you with that as well.
but that's starting up again, so it's good to see them back in gear.
And then Saturday, November 14th, we have our Let's Play.
One of our staff, Ben, he's very good with the board game, so he's running an open board game day, so that'll go from noon until 3.30 on Saturday, November 14th.
And that's for people to come in and just learn how to play some of the board games.
We have a nice board game collection in our lives.
and we have a donor who's going to allow us to purchase some special shelving for our board games.
We're really excited about getting that secured and up so that we can better have our board games for display and that they can be stored in a way that doesn't wreck the game or tip pieces out every time.
So we're excited to have that going.
But that open board game day again is Saturday, November 14th.
And then our teens are doing escape rooms.
So
that'll be
Sunday, November 22nd.
We're going to run two different escape rooms for teens.
And teens include students ages 11 to 17, ages 11 to 17 for teens.
We're running two different
escape room.
So one is going to be a cyber attack and one is going to be a mystery mansion.
So kind of appeal to a wider variety of players there with that escape room.
So lots of great things coming up.
And then as always our book club.
So our book club this month is reading the retirement plan by Sue Henson Bergs.
And this month we will still be meeting at our saviors, but next month we will be back in the library.
So excited for that.
Next month's book is Jenny Cooper Has a Secret by Joy Fielding.
So we've been doing some little lighter-hearted books.
So
the Retirement Plan is what I would call more of a cozy mystery.
It's just a funny humorous mystery.
So three women.
who are parts of couples, they're all married, so it's three couple friends.
The husbands blow the money for the retirement, and so the women decide that they're going to take action, and they find out that their husbands all have large life insurance policies, so they decide to off their husbands.
But in the meantime, the husbands have a plan of their own, so it's kind of a humorous mystery this time around.
All right.
So the retirement plan is actually your book for October for October.
This
is October's book.
The Jenny Cooper has a secret is for November.
Okay.
Yeah.
And this month, the book club is still meeting at our saviors.
So next Monday.
I just wanted to clarify that because we started out talking about November programming.
And
I backed up to
October.
Sorry.
That's not me.
Sorry.
You know, it's like we're taking people down the garden path here.
So anyway.
All right, Susie.
Well, thank you very much.
And well, it's not quite, but happy Halloween to you.
Oh, thank you.
We've been talking with Susie Manku who is the adult and teen services librarian for the Ripon Public Library.
