It's a pleasure and I have Jason Mansmith of the Thrasher Opera House in the house this morning with us.
Good morning.
It's
a pleasure
to be here.
Well, you guys have a lot of stuff coming up, don't you?
We are in the busy season, no doubt about that.
So we just came off a party for the arts a couple of weeks back.
We had a busy weekend with Harvest Fest last weekend, three shows this weekend, three shows next weekend, two shows the next weekend after that.
Well, tell us about some of that.
Absolutely.
So starting tonight, we have a great group in called Gin Chocolate in Bottle Rockets.
Now they are a great trio out of the Madison area and their show is going to be called Legends in Harmony.
So this is going to be a tribute to the late great Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstead, Emmylou Harris, the Andrew Sisters, all these kind of things and they'll bring their
Kind of approach into it three-part harmonies.
They're all fantastic musicians.
So tickets available for that 40 and $27 tonight's gonna be a good show doors open up at 645 shows at 730 I'd love to have you come on in and check that out and then tomorrow night we have
Just a really great blues band the Jimmy's Yeah, I mean well known from around, you know, Wisconsin obviously but also around the world and They're gonna be in for a great show tomorrow Hand full of tickets left for that one.
So and that's just 20 bucks And if you want to come on in and check out that show be happy to you and then on Sunday We have a show at 3 p.m.
The dream boats now these are rock and roll retro
50 60 songs played by dudes that are like 25 and 26 and 30 years old, so it's a very Young performer doing old music.
I got a chance to kind of look through the set list a little bit You're gonna know every song, you know if if you're familiar with that It's gonna be such a good time and they're very gum.
They're very famous in the cruise cruise ship circuit right they play a lot and
It's going to be a lot of fun.
So that's just this weekend.
And then next weekend, Charlie Pahr's coming on in on Friday.
National Treasurer, great folk blues kind of person.
He's coming in on Friday.
Vanessa Collier, blues master on the saxophone.
She's coming in on that Saturday.
Do you want to mention before that on that Thursday since we have, you know,
Bunch of shows going on.
Maybe it's Wednesday the 8th the Tristan Chris magic show Which is being coming on and Tristan's got his own theater down in Lake Geneva And he's putting a show on the road so we got some tickets left for that and we do have some free tickets for students As well, so if you you know buy a ticket and you want to bring a student along with you and get them for free and that's up to 50 of them and Yeah, so we're looking
Looking forward to that.
Now, I don't know if I've ever mentioned on the air, maybe I should.
Have you heard about our Castecker library experience passes?
Um, I think you talk briefly about that one time.
Yeah.
So realistically, if you have a library card to Green Lake Castecker library, um, you can go in week of show.
And if we've determined, Hey, we'll be happy to put some out here for you.
You can get tickets to come to the show that week for free.
Pretty good deal.
Oh, yeah,
all you got to do sign up You know have a library card come on in if you want to see you know the Charlie Par show next Friday Vanessa Collier Stopping on Monday at the library Check them out and you can come on in for free.
Just happy to have you in there.
Okay,
pretty cool deal.
Cool All right a couple of things.
Yeah that we got from you this week.
The samples are coming the
samples are coming.
Yeah,
I
We're
talking a band, Honest to Goodness Band.
Yeah, Honest to Goodness Band.
They got a lot of really good success in the early 90s, kind of in that reggae rock roots kind of vibe.
So when you listen to it, you'll be like, okay, I can feel some like fish coming through on that or a little primus or something along the way there.
So it's kind of a jam band thing.
They're in on November the 7th, so that'll be a fun show for sure.
And I would be remissed if I did not mention the fact that we had a huge announcement last week for Sister Strings, who's going to be playing on December 6th.
That is a Sunday afternoon 3.30 show.
Now, we don't like to drop names too much, but Sister Strings is a Wisconsin-based band.
They are the...
Permanent string section for brandy Carlisle's tour
just
played red rocks, you know a couple of weeks ago They played the Grammys with this group that I know about called Metallica and they've worked with Just about everybody so We're excited to have them into green light the last time they were here was 2018 and We were super excited to see their success and have them come back
Okay, one other one that I wanted yeah
talk about and that is Grammy winner Allison Brown.
Yeah, um, banjoist, instrumentalist, good friends with Steve Martin.
They play on a lot of music together, right?
Banjo music together.
Uh, so we're really excited to have her on in too.
It's the Allison Brown quintet coming up on
November
12.
Yeah, 12.
I remember all of them that are
rolling through at the top
of the top of the month.
So, uh, yeah, we got to, uh, it's them and then ha-ha-tanka the next day.
And then fabulous Thunderbirds, which is sold out, but we do have a wait list.
So if you ever are interested and you see sold out, do you want to take a chance on the wait list?
Put yourself on there.
I think I did see a video of Alice and Brown playing with Steve Martin at some point and he is
Great banjo player.
Incredibly good banjo player.
So the have her on in there and she's very well known, very well recognized in that bluegrass kind of Americana vibe.
So we're really lucky
to
have all these kind of great artists coming on in next month.
We'll be the drop of our new season coming up.
I think it's right around the 13th or the maybe the week later after that week before Thanksgiving.
We'll drop the new season for you.
There
you go.
And I
can tell you this, looking ahead, yeah, it's gonna be good.
We'll leave people with their appetite wedded there.
Absolutely, for
sure.
Jason, people can catch you on a great day here on the wave.
You bet.
What time is that?
1
p.m.
until 5 p.m.
I'll have those code words for you at 1 and 3.
Last day of that.
I think so,
yeah.
Yeah, so I'll be happy to have you join me there too.
Okay.
We've been talking with Jason Mansmith of the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake.
We have a couple of ladies joining us in the studio this morning as Linda DeCramer, the Children's Librarian for the Rip and Public Library and Rip and Parks and Recreation Director Ashton Zien, join us.
Good morning.
Morning.
Let's start with library stuff, Linda.
You've got a few things, a few programs you wanted to talk
about.
Well, just a quick update on renovations.
You can see I'm in my grunders today.
For a reason, the construction and renovations are technically done.
As I've mentioned previously, staff do have some work to do in the lower level before we can open up the meeting rooms to everyone and including the romper room, which is
Hi on my priority list to get that open as soon as possible.
So we're going to be painting downstairs and I'll be power washing rugs today and tomorrow we'll be doing a lot of stuff like that.
So anyway, hopefully sooner than later, all of that will be ready.
So that's all I really have to say about that.
Yeah, I didn't need to say a whole lot because we've talked about it so many times.
But yes, we are working on it.
We will keep people updated.
Just check in or call right now.
Technically the date that our lower level meeting rooms open up is November 1st.
If we finish the things we need to finish, it could be sooner.
So it is, it is worth people's time to, to check in.
You can call and.
and make a booking further out.
You can call right now and make those bookings for later on when we know we're going to be open.
Does that make sense?
Did I say that clearly?
Okay.
Okay.
You're reserving meeting room space.
Yep.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then the other, the other big thing is that Ashton is here today because we're partnering on a big event called the pause in the park.
Yeah.
And it's something that we did a couple of years ago in 2024.
And it's a celebration of dogs and the people who care for them, love them, you know, who are crazy about them, because if we, we are, because we're crazy.
And the inspiration is that October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
So, um, hop in.
anytime yes
it's tomorrow
right it's
tomorrow from 10 to 11 30 it is in Barlow Park at the Rip and Fest pavilion so we'll have a dog's tail the girl scouts library parks and rec am i missing any individuals who will physically be there
no
not physically.
Yes, so we'll have those organizations there.
Linda can give a little background on what the Girl Scouts will be doing.
If you'd like
to.
Sure, I'll do that right now.
Yes.
So the Girl Scouts of the Northwest Great Lakes, Gissin' Wiggle is what I like to call them.
They're
outreach person for our area is based in Green Bay and she will come to the event with their program is called Forever Friends.
So it's basically a program about the benefits of PET.
having pets in your family and the responsibilities and it and so she has some little crafts and some activities for kids to do to learn about having a forever friend.
There will be at least seven Girl Scouts from Ripon locally participating and helping us out at the event.
So yay Ripon Girl Scouts shout out to Robin Forbes-Lorman for always rallying the crew.
fantastic big standing ovation.
And one of the things that they will help with, I mean, they will help with the girl scout table, but they will also be donning bingo and bluey costumes.
So we're going to have the very famous blue and yellow dogs are going to be there dancing around and interacting with the kids.
Of course, with library, I always bring the book component because, you know, we can learn so much from books and enjoy so much from books.
So there will be a story walk that involves, you know, acquiring a dog in a beautiful way, obviously.
Very touching stories about getting a dog, bringing a dog into your family, and a little book nook so people can just kind of
and some
other activities.
Yeah, we have a few raffle prizes
for
individuals to win.
I have some supplies to make dog toys
for the Green Lake area animal
shelter.
So it's just like a braided dog toy with strips of fabric for the kids.
We have
I don't know if it's a thing around here, but I
called
it puppy chow growing up, but it's muddy buddies.
Oh, yeah, okay.
It is my it is puppy
child around I heard
it was a Midwest thing, but then I didn't know if it was just in my corner of the state But yes, we will have puppy chow available for humans not dogs To snack on as well
Oh, the dog's tail, they're going to have agility course for dogs to participate in.
And as of right now, I think they will have some foster dogs there.
Yeah.
So the update as of this morning from Alicia, who unfortunately couldn't make it this morning to talk with us.
But anyway, she will have two of her, she's training.
She will have two of her clients who are actively in training with their dogs with her right now.
So she will bring those two
those two pairs to the event and will do demos.
And so people can watch.
Alicia is a very, she's a very kind and intuitive trainer.
It's really magical to watch her train people how to have dogs that they want to live with.
Yeah, it's more about training the people.
as much as it is about training the dogs.
And she does both so beautifully.
So she will be there demoing.
She will also have lots of information about her business, a dog's tail LLC.
They do, in addition to training, she and her staff provide boarding and they have the
babysitting, doggy babysitting.
There's a better word for that.
I can't think of it right now.
Doggy daycare, doggy daycare.
They have doggy daycare right next door to Animal House Feed on the west end of town near the Quick Trip.
And she will also have probably two dogs with her from Second Chance North that are adoptable, Crypto and Cordelia.
So if anybody was curious in advance, you could go to the Second Chance North website and take a look.
at the dogs that they have for adoption right now.
Glass wasn't able, Green Lake Area Animal Shelter was not able to attend the event personally.
They obviously have dogs and cats for adoption.
So we will have a table with some information from them and one of our prize baskets that that people will be able to put a Ticket in to win everyone who attends will just get a ticket for every I think we're gonna end up with four prize baskets So we'll just give them four tickets when they arrive and then they can put them in whatever basket they or baskets they would like to win So we will have so they will be right
The Green Lake Area Animal Shelter will be represented just not personally.
Okay.
So dogs are welcome, but they have to be well-behaved and on a leash.
We prefer, yes,
yes.
Okay.
Dogs, in the dog ordinance, the city, they always have to be on a leash in the parks.
Yes,
yes.
And you have pickup bags for us.
Yes, yes.
So, yeah, we have two dogway stations in the park, or
three actually, three dog away stations in Barlow.
So yes, there will be bags and areas to dispose of them.
Okay.
And the time for that again is at 10 to 11 30.
Yeah.
Tomorrow morning.
Okay.
Three of it.
Yep.
Okay.
Ladies, thank you for joining
us
this morning.
Of course.
Thank you so much,
Bob.
We've been talking with Ashton Zien and Linda DeCramer, the Parks and Recreation Department Director and Children's Library and for the Rip and Public Library.
respectively.
