I'm Wayne Mauser.
One person has been arrested following a brief pursuit Sunday night in Fond du Lac County.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office says the deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on military road near West 9th Street in Fond du Lac for a traffic violation.
That vehicle's speed increased as a result leading to a chase that ended after the driver turned down a dead-end road.
The driver, a 29-year-old man from Medford, was taken into custody.
He's being held on charges of flee, elude, and misdemeanor bail jumping.
He was also issued
citations for operating without a valid license, operating while intoxicated first offense, possession of open intoxicants, and failure to stop at a stop sign.
The driver was out on a $500 cash bond through Taylor County for disorderly conduct and endangering safety with use of a dangerous weapon, both with domestic abuse enhancers.
No injuries or property damage were reported during the pursuit.
The 25-year-old Oshkosh woman injured in a motorcycle accident last Wednesday in the city has died.
Following the accident, the Oshkosh Fire Department took her to a hospital where she died.
She suffered fatal injuries in the single vehicle accident at Jackson Street and Hobbs Avenue.
Police closed a section of Jackson Street from Murdoch Avenue to Stanley Avenue to investigate the accident.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Winnebago County Crime Stoppers at 920-231-8477.
Oshkosh Police on Friday took two men into custody on detainers from the state's department
of corrections, probation and parole.
It happened following the execution of a search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of Oregon street.
The warrant was issued in connection with an investigation into an armed robbery incident involving firearms.
The two taken into custody were a 24 year old man in the 200 block of Ohio street and a 27 year old man at the police department.
A third person, a 22 year old woman, was arrested for outstanding criminal traffic warrants unrelated to the incident.
A 45 year old
Fond du Lac Man recently pled no contest to an election fraud charge.
As a result, Fond du Lac County Judge Laura Levy sentenced Anthony Van Eggterm to 30 days in jail.
The charge stems from Van Eggterm illegally voting in the November 3rd, 2020 election while serving a felony sentence.
He was referred for charges by the Wisconsin Election Commission on September 21st of 2021 and made his initial appearance on December 7th of that year.
Van Eggterm later missed court and a bench
was issued during sentencing Judge Levy stated that this case, quote, hits at the core of what our system of government is based on, unquote.
She also noted, quote, it's important for the public to have faith in it.
A 47-year-old Dodge County man is facing theft by contractor charges in Columbia and Fond du Lac counties.
Jay Patti of Burnett Faces, the federal charge in each county,
He made his initial appearance in Columbia County Court last Thursday and was released on a $1,000 signature bond.
He returns to court in November in that case.
Columbus police alleged he accepted more than $45,000 for a home renovation project that was left largely unfinished.
The Fond du Lac County case is further along with a plea and sentencing hearing scheduled for December 16th.
He pled not guilty during his arraignment last month.
The DNR is working to prevent the spread of the invasive Gobi species from Little Lake Butamore by keeping the Monash a locked shut.
It's been closed for 11 years.
DNR fisheries biologist Angelo Cazola said the lock has helped prevent the spread.
None have been located in the 16 miles between Lake Winnebago and the lock, but that hasn't kept them from getting into the lake.
DNR officials just aren't sure exactly how they get there.
Many boaters are frustrated by the fact the Manasha lock has been closed for a decade.
The DNR recently changed fishing rules so any goby caught can be kept and eviscerated without limits.
If you catch one, make sure to report
deciding to the DNR.
There's a good possibility Fond du Lac will be getting a tractor supply store.
Bob Nelson has the story for Civic Media News.
The Funnel at County Board recently approved the sale of the former Rugby Field property at the corner of University in Johnson to CMK properties for $1.85 million.
CMK is a corporation that looks for properties to develop for tractors supply.
Due diligence for the sale of the 7.9 acres will take a little while.
County Executive Sam Coppins says in addition to a tractor supply store, a grocery store and
retail shop would be part of the development.
That would be a big win for not in the county, but the city of Fundalac because now we're taking a property that's not on a tax base and converted to one that will be by itself.
And I think there's that's a great opportunity for development on the east side of the city.
Kaufman points out that a 90 unit senior housing complex is being built right across the street from it that will give those stores some of their customers.
He says they hope to see the property develop.

The third annual South Side Halloween Bash will be held in Oshkosh on Friday, October 23rd from 5 until 7 p.m.
It will be behind Leanna Hall at St.
Jude the Apostle Church, which is located at 519 Nap Street.
Over 600 people attended last year's bash that featured 24 volunteer trunk or treat stations handing out candy.
15 stations have already been signed up for this year's South Side Halloween Bash.
features of the bash will include trunk or treat stations, carnival games, free food and refreshments, costume contests, and free trick or treat bags.
The Southside Halloween Bash is made possible through the combined efforts of St.
Jude, the Apostle Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart and Neighborhood Association, and the historic Sixth Ward Neighborhood Association.

The NFL is asking for video evidence in the case involving Packers running back Josh Jacobs.
The league said it submitted a records request after a judge denied a motion to permanently seal video and other evidence in the case.
Jacobs pleaded no contest in two misdemeanor charges.
The NFL said the matter remains under review through its personal conduct policy.
The league has provided no timeline for a decision on Jacob's status.
He remains on the commissioner's exempt list, meaning he cannot practice or play with the Packers.
Three people have been hospitalized after a small plane crashed in the town of East Troy, southwest of Milwaukee yesterday.
East Troy police say all four people in the plane were injured, but one was treated and released at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
Wisconsin Rapids District 7 older person Michael Tim said he won't resign ahead of a scheduled recall election.
Petitioners alleged Tim abused his power and infringed on First Amendment rights by pressuring Hotel Mead Resorts and Conference Center management to stop selling no data center signs in July.
In a statement, Tim said he won't accept the idea that, quote, the only acceptable response to opposition is to step aside, unquote.
The recall election is set for October 27th.
The winner will serve the remainder of the term through April 2027.
The Madison Common Council is approving the city's 2027 capital budget, including funding to launch a body-worn camera program for local police officers.
Police Chief John Patterson made the technology his top priority following the deadly officer-involved shooting of Corey Ruiz earlier this summer.
Council members also debated a proposal requiring Chief Patterson to formally report on more than 300 past departmental policy recommendations dating back to 2017.
Oversight board members
members defended the chief, noting he already provides regular updates on strategic progress.

The Milwaukee Brewers closed out the regular season with a six to four victory to complete a three game sweep of the St.
Louis Cardinals over the weekend.
Manager Pat Murphy named Christian Yelich, the team's captain.
It's not about rewarding him for something.
It's just making it official, recognizing, you know, that he is the guy that helps enforce in the locker room the standards.
Yelich, the first brewer ever to be named team captain, asked Murphy to call Robin Yelich.
first before it was announced.
You know, I really wanted to run it by Robin first.
What he means here, what his career was, you know, I kind of see him as the captain of the Brewers.
So him and Murph talk Robin gave his blessing.
And after that, I told Murph I'd be honored and kind of hard to put into words.

Well, thank you for joining us today.
We've got a couple of different things we wanted to talk about.
Now, I think October 7th is a start date for what, signing up for Medicare.
Yeah, it's somewhere in there October 7 October 15th.
It's that open enrollment period But we're already getting reports from consumers that the scammers are targeting those eligible individuals Because they use this period to really ramp up their efforts and
try and take advantage of older consumers by impersonating Medicare and asking for that Medicare account information and then selling the unnecessary or even fraudulent health care products or services to consumers.
Okay, so what can you do to protect yourself?
But we want all Medicare participants or those who are going to become participants to remember that Medicare will never call or visit consumers at home to sell products.
That's not what they do.
They don't go door to door.
They don't make phone calls.
in response to selling something and then that Medicare enrollee should never provide their Medicare card number to anyone unless they've initiated that contact and that might mean that you've had a medical appointment and so you're going to be providing that card number to the provider
or
maybe you have a call about
Your account if you will and you need to call to straighten something out and you're calling Medicare directly using a reliable phone number then they may ask for your number Also that Medicare cards, they don't need to be replaced unless they're lost stolen or destroyed We've seen scams out there in the past where scammers try and impersonate Medicare and they they
tell enrollees that they can help update or replace their outdated Medicare cards.
That's not something that happens.
It's only when it's lost, stolen, or destroyed, we don't need you to replace that card for any other reason.
And then the biggest thing we're really asking people to remember is that you should always visit Medicare's website by typing in the address directly
avoid clicking any links in emails, texts or online ads or pop-ups because you don't know who that's really come from and you don't want to be directed to an imposter website so type it in directly medicare.gov medicare.gov don't click a link even if it looks like that's where it's taking you because you don't know what's really behind that
link.
And that's that's a protected website so
You don't have to worry about that, so.
Right?
Absolutely.
And then if people have questions and they want to find trusted sources of information, we have some for consumers.
You know, go to Medicare.
They operate a helpline and publish resources.
So again, Medicare.gov.
You can go to the Wisconsin Board on Aging and Long Term Care.
They have a Metagap helpline and a Metagap Part D and prescription drug hotline.
So you can go to them at longtermcare.wi.gov.
The Office of Commissioner of Insurance of Wisconsin, they provide free online resources for health insurance issues.
And they have a guide to health insurance for people with Medicare in Wisconsin.
And so you can find them at oci.wi.gov.
And then there's always AARP, a great partner of Consumer Protection.
They provide many informative articles, tips, and other Medicare related resources online.
They can be found at aarp.org.
Okay.
Another thing that we wanted to talk to you about was sports memorabilia.
Now, Packard season just started up.
I guess you could also say that the Brewers are having a record-setting season and they've got all kinds of special memorabilia that'll be coming out.
But the NFL has licensed products and you got a lot of counterfeiters out there, don't you?
We do.
We do.
We have those scammers who try and impersonate websites and sell knockoffs or say they have products and don't really have anything.
And then you just have the fraudsters out there as well with counterfeit knockoff goods.
And I believe the Packers came out with a New Jersey earlier this year and debuted one and.
So people and there was a delay in being able to get it I think Intentional the unveiling and then the release so that presents opportunities here So when you shop for your team's favorite merchandise or memorabilia You could encounter these counterfeits knockoffs and different scam products And we don't want consumers to be disappointed or lose their money or exposed payment information to scammers so
Remember that some products consumers find are real but unsanctioned by the team and that could be an unlicensed jersey.
It might look nearly identical to the real thing on a web page or hanging up in a store, but it could have the leaks tags for that sport or well-known manufacturer's logo.
And the consumer could notice poor quality when they closely examine it, or it might be easily damaged when it's being worn for any length of time, like the logos are going to just start peeling off or something.
While you might be comfortable buying unofficial products, some items, especially apparel, they can contain unsafe materials that would fail the US safety standards.
Those could relate to flammability.
It could have lead in the paint or other chemicals as well.
So just consider that aspect.
And then other indicators of unofficial products are especially hard to notice when you're shopping online.
because it can't be physically inspected until you've purchased it.
So ways to kind of navigate that is to know the seller.
If it's a well-known or officially authorized seller, the product's probably real.
But little known sellers, they could lower their prices or say they have lower prices or use that.
Offer is for a limited time.
That's just too good to be true situation.
And so you really want to know about a return policy when you're buying there or look at those third party reviews really close to see if there's any negativity about the product.
Try as soon as you get it to examine the product quality because fake merchandise, again, it's made cheaply.
It'll have visual defects, poor stitching, loose threads, designs will peel off.
It could be itchy to wear or smell unpleasant when you get it even.
So those are indicators.
And then always inspect tags and labels.
You know, there are the holograph tags for the major league sports.
Those could look dull or peel off or be low quality again and not be legitimate products that would be sanctioned by the teams or the leagues.
Christmas one year, I got two Green Bay Packer coffee mugs.
One was white.
It had the Packer logo on it and my name on it.
And on the bottom it said it was microwaveable.
It had the official NFL logo on it.
The other, no NFL logo.
not microwavable and the green main packer G on the side eventually fell off the side of the cup.
Well there is
a
perfect example so you know you don't want to be frustrated you don't want to
get a
gift that things just slide off you know you don't want the season to slide away kind of situation so
really pay attention to where you're shopping because we don't want consumers to be frustrated but more importantly lose your money or lose your personal information because you're on that site where maybe you get no goods at all versus just poor quality goods so really check things out and then it will be
you know
go to the appropriate vendors go to those vendors that
have the authorization to sell the official merchandise.
Okay, Michelle.
One more if we could.
Weight loss products and ordering them online.
What should we be careful about there?
Yeah, well we've talked about this many times over the years when something is popular This is an opportunity for scammers to take advantage and right now weight loss weight loss products, especially the GLP one medications have become very popular treatments for weight loss Diabetes and other medical needs so that demand is high and we've seen where availability has been limited or fluctuated over time and that provides this perfect opportunity or
for the scammers to target consumers with fraudulent sales listings and different products.
So consumers could receive texts, emails, social media ads, promoting the weight loss product, hoping you'll click that link and then you'll find yourself on an online pharmacy or health product retailer.
that is selling something at a discounted price and sometimes they'll say no prescriptions needed, but what you don't realize is that you're likely at a fake website that's been set up by the scammer to look legitimate.
And if you purchase through that site, you'll receive a fraudulent product that may not contain the actual medications or no product at all.
And again, your payment information has been given to the scammer.
And we've heard from consumers who have
encounter that.
And then we also see where consumers could be convinced to try a product if someone they trust appear to support it, so think those celebrity endorsements.
But scammers are using AI-powered deep fake technology to create those convincing representations of celebrities and health influencers endorsing their product.
But the real person has nothing to do with it at all.
So you have to be cautious of that, make those choices because they're right for you, not just because someone else is endorsing that product.
And then we've heard some consumers who've purchased products online that claim to be that GLP-1 medication.
They could be injections, pills, nasal spray, liquid drops, and even skin patches.
But when that product has arrived, they didn't contain that medication as it was advertised.
They were different brands than what the consumer had purchased.
And they came from unlicensed or fake pharmacies.
And so that's where this is all very important.
GLP one, you need to consult with your doctor in order to buy it in Wisconsin.
You need to be doing it through a state licensed pharmacy.
They can't just be purchased over the counter or without that prescription.
And if you are offered that opportunity, you need to be very cautious of it because that's not how this product works.
